So, here we are at the end of 2023. Was my new year’s resolution resolved? It was!
Maybe not quite how I had envisioned it would be back in January or yielding exactly the same sort of feelings of accomplishment that I had anticipated – but, yeah, I did it, and I feel really good about it. Moreover, I’m pretty sure I’ll continue to build on what I gained from my experience this past year.
My resolution was to start blogging regularly again. Check! I didn’t write massive loads of great literature, but I wrote considerably more than I would have if I had not committed myself to the resolution. I learned stuff too!
Simply working on this 2023 Resolution series alone was one way I met my goal. Remembering and rekindling old habits from my days as a full-time writer was another. Staying open to ideas about what to write – and not worrying too much about the value of what I wrote also helped me. Looking forward, I still intend to publish original self-made content on this blog regularly. I don’t have any firm plans about what/when/how to write, just lots of ideas, a willingness to make the effort, and – perhaps most importantly – a realisation that setting aside the time to time is key.
Focusing on my resolution to blog regularly again and exploring that process via this series of posts resulted in an unexpected benefit. I honed my creativity not just as a blogger or even as a writer but as a creative person in general. I began making art again after a years long hiatus and having a lot of fun with it. I also applied some lessons learned to my job and saw improvement and greater satisfaction there.
In my second post for this series, I wrote that ‘my goal is to keep at it and exercise my creative muscles in order to improve my skills and be more capable to tap into inspiration whenever it may come my way.’ In doing so, I allowed myself to develop as a creative person and find reward while keeping active in things I love to do.
More creativity to come in 2024!
