Meiji Brings Japanese Treats to the UK

Popular Japanese snack brand, Meiji, is set to debut in the UK this year with the launch of two of its most iconic snacks – Chocoroooms and Uproll.

I was invited to sample these tasty treats by the folks doing PR for Unisnacks Europe (the UK distributor of Meiji) and was happy to do so.

With its crisp biscuit stem and a chocolate cap, the mushroom-shaped Chocorooms were especially enjoyable. Meiji sent me a couple of different flavours: milk chocolate and strawberry. The milk chocolate Chocorooms were my favourites.

That said, I would have no qualms strawberries nibbling on the strawberry ones again.

I wouldn’t turndown an offer of Uprolls either. These bite-sized and ridged conical morsels have a milk chocolate base and a strawberry flavoured tip as well as a nice velvet texture.

Of course, coming from Japan, the packaging is eye-candy sweet as well. Fans of Japanese pop culture and kids of all ages will get a kick out of the fun and cute design of the packaging and its content. The unique shapes would be great for decorating cakes and other baked goods as well.

All in all, I reckon Meiji will be a welcome addition to the supermarket shelf. I certainly can imagine myself buying some Chocorooms to have as a light pick me up midway through a busy day.

A quick search online for idea about priced suggests they’ll be affordable (maybe around £1.50 or less for a 40g box of chocorooms).

Look for Chocorooms and Uproll at some major supermarkets or Japanese and East Asian grocery stores.
