Ever had a Bakewell tart? Its almond-rich flavour makes it one of my favourite British pastries. Iced or not, a Bakewell tart is total treat.
Unfortunately, a lot of what’s put out there and labeled as a Bakewell tart these days does not resemble the original, authentic creation from its Derbyshire namesake.
Not sure whether you’ve actually had the real deal? Here’s your chance to have a taste!
of Bakewell: traditional Bakewell tarts, iced Bakewell tarts and Bakewell puddings as well as lemon and coconut tarts. All are 6 inches in diameter (easily quartered for especially generous portions) and shipped in specially designed boxes to ensure arrive in perfect condition. You can even personalise your iced cherry Bakewell tart!
Prices are nice. A traditional tart is £16.75 with nothing on the shop’s site over £20.
I was offered two tarts to sample from the Bakewell Tart Shop – a traditional Bakewell tart and an iced Bakewell tart. Both were gorgeous – rich in taste with flaky crusts, just moist enough to be moreish on their own. I’m not sure if I preferred the traditional or the iced cherry version more. So if you’re thinking of placing an order, the best advice I can give is to get one of each!
