Londonist strolled down to the Brick Lane Farmers’ Market yesterday to check out its launch (see our preview here). Small and manageable but with plenty of fresh produce, baked goods, lots of meat and more, the Brick Lane Farmers’ Market – actually located on Bacon Street – appears to be a worthwhile addition to the area.

Preview: Press and Release at High Roller Society (Londonist)

Here’s a preview of an upcoming hand-made print exhibition at High Roller Society in East London. I’m stoked about this show for a couple of reasons. Some of my favourite British artists will have works in it. Also, I’m probably gonna have a small piece in it too! I’m much more comfortable with my photography than my block printing, and I’m sure my print will look very rinky dink alongside the likes of Martin Lea Brown, Cept and Paul Insect. Still I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to be part of this event.

Chefspective: Andrew Barber, Head Chef at The Forge (Londonist)

Chefspective: Andrew Barber, Head Chef at The Forge
Londonist, June 2, 2010 11:30 AM

Andy Barber

Continuing our series of interviews with London chefs, our latest instalment hits up the mastermind behind the scenes at The Forge. Set in the heart of Theatreland and close to Covent Garden Market, The Forge offers fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. Inspired by and still rather stuffed from an exquisite feast of sauté of frogs legs with butter, garlic and parsley followed by veal escalope Holstein with fried hen’s egg (there might have been a slice of baked key lime cheesecake with bitter chocolate shavings devoured as well), we fired off some questions to the restaurant’s acclaimed head chef, Andrew Barber. In return, Londonist received thoughtful responses as straightforward and tasty as his cooking.

Picnic & Play at The Deck, National Theatre (Londonist)

Picnic & Play at The Deck, National Theatre
Londonist, May 31, 2010 11:59 AM

We liked the idea last year and were pleased to see the National Theatre is bringing it back again this summer. Picnic & Play at The Deck gives theatregoers a chance to spread out on the albeit artificial lawn and lounge above the Thames with drinks and a meal on the third floor terrace of the theatre. And if the weather’s halfway decent, such a riparian pre-show cannot be beat.

LA came to the UK with the opening of Art from the New World, a ground-breaking group show at The City Museum & Art Gallery in Bristol, England. Expertly assembled by the acclaimed Los Angeles art space, Corey Helford Gallery, the exhibition featured works by 49 of America’s edgiest contemporary artists. And if that wasn’t enough to draw folks to Bristol for the Friday May 14th opening, an appearance by the one and only Dita Von Teese launched the exhibition with a short but oh so sultry burlesque performance.

Wine of the Month: 2009 Chateau Plantey Canteloup Rosé Bordeaux

Wine of the Month: 2009 Chateau Plantey Canteloup Rosé Bordeaux

Ah yes. Another bank holiday weekend … with lousy weather of course. No worries though. I’m quite content to have a Saturday night in and let the pizza delivery dude brave the rain for me. I’m especially pleased to be taking it easy as this proved to be an exhaustingly busy week with me running all over town. Besides, there’s a rather tasty bottle of rosé to review.

May’s Wine of the Month is Chateau Plantey Canteloup’s 2009 Rosé Bordeaux. Fruity and refreshing, it would have been perfect for the picnic I’m going to on Monday (weather permitting), but I just couldn’t wait. It probably wasn’t the best pairing for the pizza that showed up at my door, but it’s doing wonders now on its own. Light-medium bodied, dry and ready to drink (but it will keep), this rosé is an excellent choice for summer sipping. It’s got a pretty pink hue and is likely to make the girlie girls particularly happy. The £6.55 per bottle price certainly pleases me – very good value for this bright berry flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

For product details and more, visit Berry Bros & Rudd online at www.bbr.com or stop by their shop at 3 St James’s Street, SW1A 1EG.

Mount Street Deli Opens in Mayfair (Londonist)

Mount Street Deli Opens in Mayfair

Serving us a cup of what she reckoned to be the “holy grail of coffee” during the launch of her new Mayfair eatery, Mount Street Deli manager Hannah Gutteridge explained to Londonist that through years working in Italy she had come to know the country “like the back of her hand”. From what we could surmise during our visit, her choice of Italian tasties certainly seem to demonstrate an understanding of the Italian palate. Spreading a bit of Cornish Meadow marmalade onto a piece of crusty bread, we concluded that she’s got a handle on what’s delectably British too.

Oscar Wilde Menu at the Cadogan Hotel

Putting the cad in Cadogan, a new Oscar Wilde menu has been introduced by the Cadogan Hotel to celebrate the 115th anniversary of Mr Wilde’s arrest for gross indecency in its Room 118 (the exact date was April 6, 1895). So if you ever wondered what this infamously literary Londoner preferred to sip and sup before (or maybe after) having a shag with one of his lovers, here’s your chance!
