Summer Burger Series Launched at Ceviche Old St

Ceviche Old St has launched a new series of monthly limited edition burgers for its lunch menu this summer. I dropped by the restaurant earlier this week for a taste. They may see me drop back by again for another.

First in the “four month, four burgers” series is the Nikkei: a salmon patty with avocado-wasabi burger on a squid ink bun. It’s available through the end of May and as will be the case with subsequent burgers it costs £8.

June’s burger will be the Andina (achiote bun, Andina mushroom patty, maca, tomatoes and red onions). July will be the Criolla (coriander bun, beef mince and marinated ox heart anticucho patty, and sweet rocoto chilli sauce). And August will be the Chifa (steamed bun, chifa duck patty, and green tomato chutney).

The Nikkei was yummy. If you like salmon a bit of heat, you’ll love it. I enjoyed mine with a side of fiery Huancaina Chips (double fried potato chips with huancaina sauce, £4.50) and a punchy sweet chicha morada (purple maize drink, £3).

My chance to try the burger was also an opportunity to (finally) pay a visit to the Old Street. So before the burger main course, I started my meal with a Ceviche Clásico (catch of the day fish, classic tiger’s milk, red onion, limo chilli, sweet potato cream, plantain chifles, market price). Gorgeous – and as good as I’d had at the original Ceviche restaurant in Soho.

The restaurant itself is a lovely space with a gigantic bar and so much Peruvian contemporary art on display you’d think you were in a gallery (which in fact you kinda would be as it’s all for sale). Service was friendly and quick during my visit. I’d be inclined to return for another burger this summer and definitely more ceviche anytime.

Ceviche Old St is located at 2 Baldwin Street, EC1V 9NU. Find out more at cevicheuk.com.
