Tequila & Mezcal Fest 2018 | What to Drink at the Fest!

Tequila & Mezcal Fest is on!

I had so much fun last night sampling my way across three floors full of nearly 40 tequila and mezcal producers. Located in Bargehouse (next to OXO Tower), the fest continues today and tomorrow (Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October). If you’re looking for something tasty to get up to this weekend, keep this fifth iteration of Europe’s biggest agave extravaganza in mind – and be sure to use my TIKICHRIS discount code to save 20% when booking your tickets online.

Here are but a very few of the imbibed best from my Friday night tasting adventure.

Ancho Reyes Verde
Herbal, juicy and savoury liqueur from Puebla made with poblano chiles has one hell of a flavoursome kick.
Room 2, first floor

Casamigos Mezcal
Handcrafted joven mezcal from Oaxaca distilled by the same brand (co-owned by George Cloney) behind the popular premium tequilas.
MNKY HSE lounge, Room 8, second floor

Corazón Tequila Anejo
Single estate tequila from the highlands of Jalisco aged for two years in ex-Bourbon casks with oxygen added to the bottle after a second distillation. Smooth and rich!
Room 8, second floor

Lixcho
This small mezcal producer from Oaxaca’s three bottles (Espadin from San Luis del Rio; Blend Espadin/Sierra Negra from San Luis del Rio; and Blend Madrecuishe/Bicuishe from Mengoi) were perhaps the most complex and delicate drinks of my visit.
Room10, third floor

Mezcal Dulce Infierno
This mezcal from the mountains of Durango made with wild agave nine to ten years old and cooked for six days in prehistoric underground ovens using volcanic stone and wood has a smoky aroma and long finish. It goes down smooth with some heat at the end.
Room 2, first floor

Mezcales de Leyenda
Leyenda’s collection of single origin artisanal mezcales from six of Mexico’s mezcal producing regions are all phenomenally delicious and distinct. The one’s from Durango and Guerrero are especially worth your time to taste.
Room 12, third floor

Montelobos Joven Mezcal
Artisanal organic mezcal from Oaxaca with complex palate and smoky nose.
Room 2, first floor
