Getting the hint after record sales of English wine during the Diamond Jubilee weekend, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust recently launched its first English Wine tasting class aimed at consumers.
Hosted by Julia Trustram Eve (Marketing Director at English Wine Producers), the two-hour class was held on Thursday 12 July and featured 12 English wines.
Yep, I was at the tasting. Thoroughly enjoyed myself too.
My fave among the dozen sampled was without a doubt the Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2003. Sparkling … 100% Chardonnay … suggested retail value around £35 … crisp, fruity, some characteristics similar to a dry sherry … delish!
Says Ian Harris, Chief Executive of the WSET:

Indeed, if you’re reading this post and are even moderately intrigued in Engish wine, you should be hopeful too. And honestly, I think there’s more than enough demand and thirst for WSET to do tastings similar to what I experienced well more often than once a year.
