East Village, the new residential neighbourhood located on the site of the Athletes’ Village inside the newly named Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is to be constructed “in Lego” as part of a 3sqm replica of London’s Olympic skyline, offering a sneak peek at the shape of things to come when East Village opens to the public in the summer of 2013.
And the super cool thing thing about this that you can help build the scaled-down model!
From 9am onwards at Westfield Stratford City from today (25 September) to the 1st of October, members of the public are invited to join in the building. Participation is completely free. There are Lego prizes to be won by the best young builders. And professional Lego builders (is that a dream job or what?) will be on hand co-ordinating the project.
Athletes’ Village during the Games: what will it look like in Lego?
The model, which will be constructed over the course of 400 hours, will provide the first-ever detailed view of the heart of East Village, which was closed to the public for the duration to the Games. The scene will include Chobham Academy – the state-of-the-art new education campus for 1,800 students – as well as the East Village Health and Wellbeing Centre, and entertainment venues within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
