Pall Mall Fine Wine is the sister site (and older sister at that) of Shepherd Market Wine House (which I visited last month and loved). As its name succinctly suggests, it is indeed a fine place to enjoy wine at a rather well heeled address.
Like Shepherd Market Wine House, Pall Mall Fine Wine is a little laidback little bar and shop in a upscale local. Whereas Shepherd Market makes an airy and lighthearted statement with its cheery Provencal yellow tone, Pall Mall broods with a dark burgundy cast. Set midway down the covered Royal Opera Arcade and opposite a cello shop, it’s got a hideaway feel to it – like a cubbyhole for connoisseurs. And, connoisseurs certainly should be happy to seek refuge here. The wine list is phenomenal (nab a bottle of The FMC Chenin Blanc 2013) and bolstered by a good selection of cheese, charcuterie and such. Foie gras (£12/60g)? Yes please.
It’s not only a delectable place for a moody drink though, but a smart stop for grabbing a bottle of whatever quaff you fancy en route to wherever it is you’re route-ing off to. Prices are reasonable given selection (and fancy schmancy digs) and folks at the bar know their grapes.
Pall Mall is located at 6-8 Royal Opera Arcade, SW1Y 1UY. Find out more at pallmallfinewine.co.uk.
