Matching Territorial Cheese and Wine | Paxton & Whitfield X Berry Bros & Rudd

Cheese and wine comprise one of the best pairings on the planet. Whether during the festive season or not, it is an extremely enjoyable match. I went along to Jermyn Street cheese mongers Paxton & Whitfield for what turned out to be an unusual and interesting session on these two items. Indeed, unusual because the cheeses picked were all British and made by small producers and known as ‘territorials’ because they take their name after the region or county they are produced in (eg Cheddar). Classic Old School Italian Night Out at Getti, Jermyn Street

Hey, I’m all for innovation and for people attempting to wow my palate in new and different ways. Indeed, that’s what’s made writing about the London dining scene such a killer gig over these past several years. But – and it’s a big ole booty butt – if something ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And in the case of Jermyn Street’s mainstay trattoria, Getti, everything seemed A-Okay and in delicious working order during my recent visit. Continue reading

Celebrating Edward VII’s Birthday with The King’s Ginger and Berry Bros

The level of kitsch and pretence was nearly as copious as the amount of booze in the cocktails during a recent posthumous birthday lunch for King Edward VII, with The King himself on hand to preside over the merriment. As wackily anachronistic as the celebration was, the setting could not have been more authentic or historically spot on. Of course as is so often the case with too many wonderful experiences, there had to be a hitch. Continue reading
