Improve Your Mood at El Camion, Brewer Street, Soho

Tequila enlivens your mood. And if you’re drinking the quality stuff it won’t leave you feeling hung over with a headache the next day. Does this sound like a shot of just-what-the-doctor-ordered? Then ándale your way over to Soho for taste of Old Mexico at El Camion.

There’s an excellent range of top shelf tequilas, complemented by competently assembled and executed list of margaritas plus a tasty assemblage of Mexican dishes at El Camion. It’s a late hours/wee hours of the morning venue too! Ole? Oh yes.

I hate to admit it but I’m a newbie to El Camion. But a recent invite to try the food was well received and I liked what I ate. I loved gnashing at a mound of nachos with grilled chicken (tortilla chips with melted jack, guacamole and salsas, £9) while nursing a Tommy’s Margarita (Olmeca Altos Blanco tequila, fresh lime juice and agave syrup, £8). Fish tacos? You can get ‘em here (served with fresh corn tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce and homemade salsa, £8). I found my plate to be a satisfying main and reckon you will too.

When you go try to nab a table by the front windows for some of the best people watching in El Soho.

Even more pleasing is the action that takes place downstairs at El Camion’s members only basement bar, the Pink Chihuahua. Don’t worry though; membership doesn’t seem to be too exclusive. I mean they let me join. I’m glad they did too as I’ve enjoyed a selection of sips from one of London’s finest cocktail menus since. Case in point: the Mezcal Sazerac (Alipus San Baltazar Mezcal, Absinthe, and Peychaud Bitters, £11), which might be the best cocktail I’ve had all year. It’s certainly the one I’ve raved and craved about the most since tasting.

El Camion is located at 25-27 Brewer Street, W1F 0RR. Find out more at elcamion.co.uk.
