In an effort to “put the lad in salad, Haywards Pickles hosted a recent event sharing easy to make recipes with a focus on getting men to eat more healthily and take more initiative in the kitchen.
I tagged along to the happening. I really enjoyed myself too. I was impressed with some of the recipes. Piccalilli, coconut milk and a dash of curry powder for a quick and easy (and moreish) chicken curry? Yeah, I’d make that.
I also relished (get it?) the opportunity to sample Haywards’ full range (Britain’s largest) of picked vegetables. Indeed, upon leaving I was offered a few jars of Haywards products. Since then I’ve realised that Haywards Sweet & Mild Whole Gherkins are much tastier than the brand of pickled gherkins I’d been buying for years.
It’s worth noting that the venue was an excellent one. Held at the Central Street Cookery School near Old Street, there was plenty of space for all the guests (maybe 30 or 40 attended) to cook without bumping into each other while using quality appliances and utensils.
So the event was a successful – for Haywards as I’m sure I’m not the only convert to come out of it and for me as now I’m shopping for a yummier product.
Central Street Cookery School is located at St Luke’s Community Centre, 90 Central Street, EC1V 8AJ. Visit the school online at centralstreet.org.
