Next stop on my Graze Across Galicia is Benboa at the pretty little port of Corrubedo.
Benboa is a large venue split into four spaces: restaurant, tavern, bar and fish shop with deli. It’s got a nautical (but not too kitsch) theme throughout with plenty of outdoor seating with views across Corrubedo’s port stretching toward the area’s famed giant dunes across a small bay. Menues are seasonal and created with a focus and commitment to sustainably sourced local products.
As with just about everywhere I ate in Galicia, my visit kicked off with a complimentary dish – in this case a pork empanada (Galego style) with a pint of lager at the bar followed by an al fresco lunch from the tavern menu in the soft spring sun admiring the boats bobbling nearby and the vistas beyond the bay.
A starter course of pastel de marisco (a sort of seafood mousse) with aioli and seaweed preceded a plate of grilled razor clams. Both satisfied immensely.
Word is that Bar Ferruxe, the other eatery at the port, is the better restaurant in Corrubedo. Indeed that’s where we were headed only to discover it was closed on the day we visited. Still I found no fault with what was on offer at Benboa and would be more than pleased to dine there again.
