Have you ever tried baking with Splenda as a no-calorie alternative to sugar? Me neither, but now I’m going to give it a shot.
Have you been watching GBBO? If so, then I’m sure you caught Bake Off’s new judge Prue say that she would like to see healthier recipes on the show. The folks at Splenda® Brand Sweetener couldn’t agree more with Prue’s comments.
They got in touch with me recently to see I’d like to help them spread the word that replacing sugar with Splenda can lead to healthier eating. Assuring me that a compromise-free sweet life is possible, they wondered if I’d like to have a go at cooking with Splenda and sharing my thoughts about the experience here on my blog.
I said yeah, reckoning it could be fun and insightful to have a taste for myself.
So over the coming months I’m going to try out some baking recipes using Splenda instead of sugar or other sweeteners. I’ll be sure to share those recipes with you and let you know my thoughts about the results.
Stay tuned for recipes such as sherry clafoutis, apple lattice pie, and classic cupcakes and how these treats turn out when baked with Splenda as a key ingredient.
What is Splenda?
Splenda Brand Sweetener is a no-calorie sweetener also known as sucralose that can be used as part of a healthy diet to reduce the calories and carbohydrate from sugar that you consume. Made through a patented process that starts with sugar and converts it to a non-carbohydrate sweetener that tastes like sugar and can be used spoon for spoon just like sugar. After eating Splenda, it passes through the body without being broken down for energy, so the body does not recognize it as a carb.
