Battle of the Sexes – It was Crunch Time

Demi Perera gets set to love the soon to be released film, Battle of the Sexes.

It was literally crunch time at Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush this week courtesy Nature Valley and their new snack – Nut Butter Biscuits. The Atrium in Westfield was transformed in to a tennis court complete with reserved seating to celebrate the release of the movie Battle of the Sexes.

What a treat it was to see tennis icon and Wimbledon champion (1987) Pat Cash play a brilliant game against current female British No.1 player Johanna Konta. We were treated to a game of teasing and fun with plenty of encouragement from umpire Greg Rusedski.

At the half way mark umpire Rusedski climbed down to join in the game and a star struck ballgirl was invited to join Pat Cash. She did brilliantly by winning a point for her doubles team. Shoppers at Westfield cheered on as Johanna claimed victory while Pat won the hearts of the crowd with antics of racket throwing and mock tantrums.

The movie Battle of the Sexes recounts the highly publicised 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. It was watched on television by 90 million people and was a huge showdown between feminist King and an antagonising and chauvenistic Riggs. Actors Emma Stone and Steve Carell play the lead roles and the movie has received great reviews. Battle of the Sexes hits UK cinemas on 24th November, and I for one cannot wait to see it.
