HipChips, a Review

It’s crunch time for Sabrina Fancy as she heads to HipChips in Soho with her kids.

With the end of the school year, my children insisted on an end of the year treat. Where did they want to go? HipChips, a quirky eatery, situated on Old Compton Street in Soho!

HipChips is a necessary visit for anyone who is a big fan of delicious hand-cooked crisps.

These multi-colored crisps are a result of the different variety of potatoes used, according to seasonality. The crisps are thickly sliced, crispy on the outside and chewy towards the middle and taste very fresh, unsurprising since they are handmade in the shop! They are kept under a light, which prevents them from being soggy because light evaporates liquids.

Every time I visit, there seem to be a new variety of dips, in sync with current events. For instance, there is currently a delicious Strawberry and Cream dip to celebrate Wimbledon. The dips on offer are constantly changing with new flavour’s introduced frequently. This latest time, I discovered the Wasabi and Avocado mayo, which was divine!

The beauty of HipChips is that it caters for sweet and savory taste buds. I always find that while many typical ‘desserts’ leave me feeling a big sluggish, I find that sweet dips at Hipchips are always light and delicious and go brilliantly with the cinnamon sugar sprinkled chips!

The other dips that we tried were brilliant as well. The Katsu curry is always a favourite, and of my children loved the Chocolate and salted caramel with marshmallows along with the peanut butter and jelly (the jelly had real fruit and was delicious!)

Little touches to customize the dips really make me feel that a lot of thought goes into perfecting these dips and they are perfect for adult and kids alike. The strawberry cheesecake flavor even came with a biscuit base!

The wide range of dips, and the freshness and range of cuisines from Moroccan to China makes ensures that everyone will find a dip they enjoy! There are so many sweet and savory options that we had difficulty deciding!

Many of the dips are vegan friendly, so there is something for everyone and it is certainly child friendly with lovely members of staff who are always cheerful and happy to help.

I am pleased to note that the portion sizes remain as generous as ever and the four of us could not finish a box of six dips! But, they come beautifully packaged in a posh box which we took home for later. (I ended up fighting for the remaining crisps at home while indulging in a midnight snack!)

The prices remain very good value – especially for Central London!

Overall, another great experience and one I will be repeating before the end of the summer in order to use as bribery material for my kids!
