Sailing the Thames with Secret Adventures

Secret Adventures runs “unusual and off grid adventures in London and beyond, designed to generate a sense of exploration and wonder”. One of those adventures is a cruise of from Tower Bridge to the Thames Barrier and sailing back toward town with a stop at Greenwich Pier where guests disembarked.

Kemey and I joined a recent voyage and had a lovely time.

Our cruise aboard the Lady Daphne, an original 1923 Thames Barge, departed from Tower Millennium Pier, next to the Tower of London. The barge was in impeccably preserved condition with plenty of outdoor area and comfortable indoor seating. It was awesome to see Tower Bridge drawn (especially beneath it from the river) for the barge to pass under. Like so many days this summer, the weather was warm and the sky was cloudless. So it was a splendid opportunity to be out on the water, soaking up the sun while sightseeing.

Simply put, the highlight for me was getting to catch up with Kemey while sitting outside in one place with a steady and pleasant change of scenery.

Secret Adventure river cruises cost £39 per person. Cruises set sail from Tower Millennium Pier, Lower Thames Street, EC3N 4DT. For more about departures and all of Secret Adventures’ offers go to secretadventures.org.
