The Devil’s Chair: Organic Signature Blend from Apostle Coffee

Family-run, UK-based, 100% organic and carbon neutral from the onset – there’s a lot to love about Apostle Coffee before even catching a whiff of the product. I’m pleased to report the coffee roasted in Shropshire by the bean-to-cup company is as delicious as their practices are sustainable and ethical.

That’s my hot take after brewing a pot of Joe from a gifted bag of Apostle Coffee’s award-winning organic signature blend: The Devil’s Chair. 

A mix of Colombian and Indian organic beans of mixed varietals, The Devil’s Chair is a great choice for folks who prefer filter coffee – especially if said folks are also chocolate lovers. There’s a  prominent note of cocoa with strong hints of caramel and hazelnut (liquid Nutella anyone?). The blend yields a smooth and mildly acidic drink that’s balanced and full bodied. This is coffee coffee that I enjoyed black but could see how a few drops of milk would go a long way to further reveal a range of agreeable flavours. I reckon it’s tasty enough on its on with no need for sugar. 

The Devil’s Chair is one of several coffees available as individual 225g bags or via subscription – all hand packaged in home compostable bags, stamped with vegan inks and sealed with biodegradable labels. Most coffees run under £10 for a 225g bag with none much more than that. Subscriptions start at £11.95 per month. Deliveries are free on all subscriptions and for orders over £30.

I would be keen to taste other blends from Apostle. In particular for the coming weeks would be the Christmas Cheer: Festive Blend, a “a smooth and rich cup, with notes of marzipan and red currant” suggestive of the “fantastic flavours of a delicious Christmas Cake.” Tis the season for a cup of this!
