Nineteen 87 Premium Baked Dog Food

Nineteen 87

Federica Carr serves a dog’s dinner of Nineteen 87, premium baked dog food to her trusty companion.

Being surrounded by fussy eaters is not ideal for a food blogger… and I am not talking just about my husband. My dog in fact, is a fussy eater too. Amber, our basset fauve the Bretagne who’s been featured already on this blog, is quite difficult when it comes to nourishment.

We have always given her a mix of dry kibble (which, allegedly, provides what she needs in terms of vitamins, minerals and so forth) and cooked meat, usually chicken. Her kibble is from a major, well respected pet food brand and she usually likes it, but when, for a reason or another, we have to give her something else (for example when we were in Italy in the summer), she often munches on the chicken and leaves the biscuits behind.

In fact, the more well made, healthy, ethical, free range and the likes her food is, the least keen she is on having it. Have I mentioned she’s fussy? I have spent enough in the past to learn my lesson.

So, I admit I did not have much hope she would enjoy Nineteen 87 taster pack content. Created by Graham, a pet nutritionist, their way of cooking pet food is a much kinder and more natural process than extrusion (the mass production process) and allows the food to brown by what’s known as the Maillard reaction, which locks in the goodness of essential ingredients and gives real flavour.

Using the finest ingredients from farms here in the UK, they take care to get the right mixture to achieve a decent taste for the pets. I can’t vouch for the taste, but they really smell very good, unlike some dog food and treats which are so horribly stinky, you can’t even put some in your pocket.Using the finest ingredients from farms here in the UK, they take care to get the right mixture to achieve a decent taste for the pets. The taster pack contains a 750gr bag of Welsh Chicken with Turmeric & Sweet Potato dry kibble, a chewy Goat Bar with banana and sweet potato to provide the dog with a highly nutritious source of protein and flavour and a treat bag of Duck Bites with raspberry and rosemary (the most nicely smelling of all).

Amber liked the whole lot! The treats, she munches upon with pleasure, and usually she gets one after each walk. They are a decent size, not too big but not tiny either, so good for a mid size dog like her.

The chewy bar is so nicely packaged it could easily be mistaken for a human protein snack! She loves this too – I have been given her small pieces one at the time as a treat.

Finally the dry kibble – she’s been cleaning up her bowl since she’s been having those, of course with freshly cooked chicken, but she really seems to enjoy them. They are on the small size, but it’s perfect for her. They are not oily like the big brand, mass produced food we usually give her and they smell good too.

The brand identity of Nineteen 87 itself is really cute, and when the box arrived home, everyone was keen on it, not realising it was actually for Amber.

We are really happy with the ingredients they use and the concept behind. They use plants and extracts to ensure that dogs get essential vitamins and minerals. Moreover, they donate a percentage of the profits to Great Ormond Street Hospital (but why not an animal charity? in our view it would be a better fit).

At the moment, they are offering the Taster pack at 50% (£4.99) so a great opportunity to see if your dog likes it. Amber really did, and we’ve already placed an order for more! Find out more at nineteen87.co.uk.
