Tequila & Mezcal Fest 2018 | Comida to Crave

The Tequila & Mezcal Fest will be here soon and I’ve got a sneak peek of what to eat when you go.

The biggest agave extravaganza in Europe isn’t only an opportunity to drink premium Mexican spirits in a festive atmosphere. It’s also a chance to chow down on some excellent food from one of the world’s most craved cuisines. As part of my Teq Fest preview, I went on a quick little two-stop taco tour earlier this week to get a taste of some of the dishes to be on offer during Teq Fest 2018.

Hungry yet? Vamos!

Peyotito

My Teq Fest team up came in handy here! I’d been meaning to make it over to this modern Mexican restaurant in Notting Hill since it opened – and now I’m dying to return for further foodie investigations.

It was tough deciding from all the yummy items on the menu. Nevertheless, I was more than pleased with the dishes ordered. Top marks for the most moreish enchiladas I’ve had this side of the Atlantic. I also loved the tlayuda: a Oaxacan dish kinda like a Mexican pizza with black bean paste, cheese, roasted tomatoes and Mexican oregano atop a thick blue corn tortilla (I had mine with two free range eggs on top).

For Teq Fest, word is the team from Peyotito will be serving tlayudas, tamales, pozole (hominy soup) and more. I’m stoked!

Peyotito is located at 31 Kensington Park Road, W11 2EU. Find out more at peyotitorestaurant.com.

Taqueria

Next up on my agenda was a stroll up the street to stalwart of London’s Mexican food scene, Taqueria. It had been awhile since I’d last visit this Westbourne Grove eatery, but my memories of it were fond and were not diminished during my return.

Best bite during my dine – and a treat one don’t want to miss at Teq Fest – were the Roadside Chicken Tacos filled to the max with charcoal grilled chicken, scotch bonnet mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatillo arbol salsa and refried beans. Wow! Another noteworthy morsel devoured was the tuna tostada stacked with sliced raw tuna, guacamole, chipotle mayonnaise and crispy onion.

Taqueria is located at 141-145 Westbourne Grove, W11 2RS. For details go to taqueria.co.uk.
