Covent Garden Smells of Roses

Demi Perera takes the time to smell the roses and enjoy the Champagne at Covent Garden.

London’s Covent Garden is synonymous with many things. The traffic-free piazza, luxury boutiques, restaurants and bars are amongst those which make it a must see for anyone visiting town. There’s always a good reason to go but here’s one more. Fleurs de Ville’s  floral-dressed mannequin installations are now on display in Covent Garden’s Central Avenue. They will remain there as part of Frieze Festival until Sunday 7th October.

I went along to the enchanting Champagne reception preview this week to find out a little more. Fleurs de Ville has brought together a dozen of London’s florists to dress mannequins in floral couture.  Fresh flowers, leaves and vines adorn 12 mannequins in signature designs by Bloomsbury Flowers, Amie Bone and Wild Things, Mariage Freres, Floral Street, Bentley, Taittinger, Olivia Burton, Brides Magazine, Kate Spade, Rituals, Jardin Blanc and Covent Garden’s own installation by Covent Garden’s Head Gardener.

The installations are as alluring as you might imagine. They range from Taittinger’s romantic red rose and Rosé Champagne display to Olivia Burton’s fashionable leaves and roots installation. Each installation is as individual and opulent as the brands which have created them. They offer a glimpse in to the creativity and innovation behind the names. Judges on the evening unanimously crowned Olivia Burton’s installation as the Best in Show. It was raucously applauded by the crowd in attendance.

The displays are an unmissable treat for anyone visiting Covent Garden and a welcome respite from the pandemonium of the piazza on any given day. When you visit be sure to vote for your favourite mannequin for a chance to win two tickets to Jardin Blanc at The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. It is Raymond Blanc’s private space at the show filled with food, cocktails and of course gorgeous gardens. Dining experiences based on menus created by Raymond Blanc are included in the entry ticket. Ballot boxes are placed at the entrance and exit of Central Avenue and winners will be announced on Sunday 7th October.
