Thanks

Every Thanksgiving Day since 2011, I’ve written a sort of ‘things to be grateful for’ blog post. So I’ll keep with the tradition and do the same today. But if you want know the truth, I feel ambivalent and glum.

Honestly, work’s been good and steady for the most part. The first four or five months of 2018 were especially busy with a super cool project that came out of nowhere but turned out to be a perfect fit for me. The gig was like I was getting paid to play.

I’m really enjoying podcasting too. I’m a lot more prolific with producing episodes than I would have guessed I was going to be, and I’ve been able to interview some amazing and inspirational folks. More to come!

Journeys and adventures have been pretty epic this year too. It boggles the mind when I think back on all the trips I’ve taken and places I’ve seen. Some of my travels have allowed me to catch up with old friends and close family members. Life doesn’t get better than that.

And yes I continue live in a city I love, with someone I love, in a safe and comfortable home.

But Brexit sucks. Trump sucks. My mom dying at the beginning of this year sucks. Other stuff I’d prefer not to mention sucks. It’s like the world has skidded out of synch with my worldview. And this deluge of suckiness just keeps expanding. Fighting it is exhausting.

I suppose I’m glad to have an outlet to express these thoughts and to be able to articulate them with some coherence. I know I can cope I just wish I didn’t have to. I know things will eventually get better; I just don’t know how shitty they’ll get before improving.

Happy Thanksgiving.
