Unsung Cities

Unsung Cities

Here’s a quick introduction to Unsung Cities, a new series of posts about overlooked and under appreciated urban wonders I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

I travelled a lot this year, clocking more hours on the road than at home. Some of that time away was spent in towns I didn’t expect to like nearly as much as I did. The more I roam the more I find underdog, mid-sized and so-called second tier cities can do it for me as much as and sometimes to a greater extent than their far more celebrated counterparts.

Maybe I’ve become more inclined to enjoy these less obvious destinations because I’ve already experienced so many of must-see bucket list cities. But I think what’s more the case is that these unsung cities are where folks tend to take more interest in why I’m there and what I’m after. They’re places with heart and character – and more nuanced stories.

In writing this introduction, I want to namedrop the cities I intend to write about and give examples of what I mean. There’s a fairly lengthy list I have in mind of municipalities around the globe I reckon are worth a mention. I’d rather wait though and let each of those places shine on their own in their own post.

So stay tuned for my first Unsung Cities selection coming soon with more posts appearing regularly on the blog after that.
