How to Smoke a Brisket Like a Pro

Whether it’s the chilly winters or the hot summer, everybody loves to dig into a juicy bbq any time of the year. After all, it is the best technique to cook or smoke meat and have been used by many since the oldest of days.

Whether you have a pool party or a wedding dinner a bbq never fails to amaze and win the hearts of the guests.

Whenever the topic of bbq arises it is nearly impossible and to some extent unfair to not bring up the brisket. Everybody loves a good brisket meal and is a center of attention of any dinner party.

The best idea is to make your own delicious brisket. Yes, you heard it right, you can bbq a whole brisket at your home with only a few simple ingredients.

As hard as it sounds, it is actually not. If you have the right equipment and ingredients, you can pull off a tender smoked brisket right at your home like a professional. All you have to do is, know how to. So what are we waiting for, let’s get right into the recipe.

Preparing the Brisket

Before we go ahead with the cooking, it is vital to prep your piece of meat. If you are planning on cooking a brisket, it is certain that you would have already gotten the meat from the supermarket.

If you haven’t yet, then make sure to get the meat of the most prominent quality. Choose a large cut marbled meat of 11- 15 pounds with two muscles and a layer of fat.  Then comes the time to carve the meat in proper cuts of brisket.

Carve it along so that a layer of fat is there at the upper (point) and bottom (flat) side of the meat. Then the most important part, wash and clean the meat using warm water and your meat is all ready to proceed to the next step.

Smoking the Brisket

One very important fact that you will have to monitor throughout the cooking process is the temperature.

Temperature is extremely crucial when it comes to smoking a brisket and has to be controlled at 200-250 degrees. You can use an electric smoker or a powered thermostat to smoke your brisket as it is easier to monitor the temperature with these.

Controlling the temperature at a constant level will ensure that your brisket is properly and perfectly smoked. Place your brisket in the ideal spot in the smoker where it will absorb heat equally throughout.

Then comes the fact to know how long you should be cooking your meat. It will depend on the size of the meat and sometimes the external weather as well.

If you have wrapped your meat in a foil you will have to adjust the timing accordingly. Use a thermometer to check whether the meat is cooked through. Poking the meat is another great way to identify whether it is cooked or not. Poke the meat with a stick or a knife. If it slides through easily and there is no resistance then the meat is ready.

After the meat is cooked with perfection, it is time to allow it to rest. Resting the meat is a crucial step that many tend to skip. If you don’t rest it, all the flavors will drain right out of the meat making it very dry and chewy.

What you need to do is wrap the meat up in a foil and rest it for a while. Once done resting, you can carve and serve it to your guests with delicious sauce and sides.

Conclusion

As you can see, it is not at all that complex to smoke a brisket at home. The process is fairly easy and all you need to make sure is that the temperature is maintained.

Make sure to get the meat of the most prominent quality and use a thermometer to check if the heat has reached the core of the brisket and voila, your smoked brisket is all ready to devour.
