Icco Goodge Street | Lucky 13

Icco Goodge Street | Lucky 13

2019 is the 13th anniversary of tikichris.com. I’m marking the seemingly inauspicious milestone with Lucky 13: a yearlong miniseries about 13 places to eat and drink that helped shape and define what I love about the London food and drink scene.

First of my 13 stops is Icco, a utilitarian pizzeria in Fitzrovia that’s been baking tasty and nicely priced pizzas for 20 years.

Does Icco do Best pizza in London? Not by my standards, but it’s not far off! I would say Icco probably serves the best priced pizza in London at a consistently high standard.

Icco’s 12” Margherita costs £3.95. Add some toppings and it’s still not that much more. I think the most expensive pie on the menu is £7.20. Most pizzas are around £5.50 or £6. As cheap as it is, it’s still delicious and as good as (or better than) most pizzas in London costing twice as much or more.

There are other items on the menu (desserts, smoothies … I think they do breakfast pastries as well). I’ve only had the pizza, and mostly just the Margherita.

Service has been swift and friendly every time I’ve visited (no matter how jam packed, which can be the case at times when you might expect it). Never a slip up. Never a flub. That’s saying a lot considering how many times

I’ve eaten at Icco.

This humble pizzeria has been a bit of a lifesaver over the many years I’ve lived in London. Such has been particularly so when I’ve been low on funds. But there have been instances even when I’ve had the cash to splash out on more lavish options to find myself gladly queueing up for a cheap pizza instead. Indeed, I have learned from past mistakes when I dined somewhere nearby for a more costly meal only to realise I would have been happier to have had a simple Margherita at Icco.

Not so long ago, getting a quality pizza in London wasn’t as easy to do as it is now. Icco’s been there since the beginning for me though. Grazie!

Icco Goodge Street is located at 46 Goodge Street, W1T 4LU. There’s a sister outlet in Camden as well. Find out more at icco.co.uk.

Still hungry? I’ll be back soon with a taste of another Lucky 13 place to eat in London.
