Two new steam train services will run from London’s Waterloo Station this summer. Judith Schrut was on hand for the opening ceremonies.
Champagne
, canapés
, a brass quartet in Victorian regalia and a spring day full of promise were all on hand to greet the shiny apple green engine of 61306 Mayflower, one of only two surviving B1 steam locomotives, on her inaugural trip into London’s Waterloo Station earlier this week.
The Royal Windsor Steam Express will provide excursions to the historic city of Windsor by steam train three times daily on Tuesdays, while the Sunset Steam Express offers fabulous evening trips from London to the scenic hills, villages and downs of rural Surrey.
Intrepid travellers on both services can enjoy dining in elegant 1950s Pullman carriages or comfy 1960s style restaurant cars, along with a variety of eating options. These range from a fabulous sounding champagne brunch or a three course chef-prepared dinner to traditional British Rail bacon rolls and BYO picnics.
Standard adult fares for the Royal Windsor Steam Express are £35 (£20 children), £85 inclusive of full-on champagne brunch. Sunset Steam Express fares start at £49 standard, £99 for Premier Dining and £129 for Luxury Pullman Dining. Tickets and more at
