Demi Perera confesses her affinity for flowers and her love of Covent Garden in Bloom.

I’m an anthophile. I’ve made no secret of this. I buy myself flowers on the way home, order them with my weekly shop and despair if anyone forgets to gift me anything floral on my birthday. Given this affinity when I was asked to cover Covent Garden in Bloom I thought about it for less than a nano second before I said, “yes”.

Fleur de Villes has returned to Covent Garden with yet another dazzling display of luxury floral couture. It’s part of the annual Covent Garden in Bloom event, which runs from 15th May to 5th June 2019, kicking off Spring in the city. The exhibition, held in Central Street inside the Market building, celebrates the changing of seasons and is, as expected, an utter treat on the senses.

Astonishing floral displays from Kenzo, The National Portrait Gallery, Taittinger and a host of other luxury brands sit side by side offering an earthly parade of an ethereal dream. It provides a great backdrop and a fitting celebration for the heritage of the market.

Many of this year’s displays used dark foliage and dramatic themes. From National Portrait Gallery’s Elizabeth created with hydrangeas, delphiniums and amaranths to Kenzo’s Poppy adorned with fresh poppies this is an unmissable treat for London. Fleurs de Ville has worked with local florists, designers and growers to create the installations to stunning effect.

I thoroughly enjoyed the preview. It’s most certainly worth a trip to Covent Garden and there’s also a chance to win tickets Chelsea Flower Show by voting for your favourite. If you happen to be in and around the area be sure to pop by and enjoy the displays which offer a little respite from the hustle and bustle around it. The space is an enchanting alley and a colourful reminder of the magic of Spring in London.

Covent Garden in Bloom runs through 5 June. For more information visit coventgarden.london.
