Pompi: il Regno del Tiramisu

Pompi: il Regno del Tiramisu

Ever get a major hankering for tiramisu? Boy, I do! And now I know where to go (and whom to have bring it to me) here in London next time those cravings hit for this delicious Italian dessert.

Pompi is a 60 year-old family business founded in Rome with a presence in London. Key to the Pompi’s long running success is its handcrafted tiramisu served in its shops and available for delivery. I was most pleased when the London branch of Pompi reached out for me to try their traditionally made tiramisu.

About six years ago, I published a list of places in London that served excellent tiramisu. Sometime recently, the folks at Pompi came across my post and reckoned theirs was better than the ones I wrote about. They got in touch to see if I would be up for a taste of what they had to offer. I was all for it! A few days later, a beautifully packaged “classic” tiramisu arrived at my door at an agreed delivery time.

The Pompi take on the coffee-rich and creamily textured treat was more than a contender compared to my recollection of my 2013 research. It was the superior tiramisu: well balanced (didn’t hit your palate hard with over-the-top espresso notes) with an extremely light (but not at all airy) mouthfeel.

Pompi’s tiramisu prices start at £5 for single servings, £15 for family boxes and £22 for cakes.

Pompi does a range of other desserts and cakes as well, including wedding cakes. In addition to the tiramisu, I received a Seven Wonders chocolate dessert layered with chocolate and hazelnut cream with a dark chocolate mirror glaze and coated in pistachios. Wow. It was an extra indulgent addition, priced at £5.

Pompi has a pickup point in Whitechapel at FoodStarts, 74 Vallance Road, E1 5BW and a shop in Soho at 65 Shaftesbury Avenue W1D 6LH.

Delivery service is available in London seven days a week. Find out more at pompi.co.uk.
