Karapincha, Sri Lankan Kitchen at The Limehouse Pub in Canary Wharf

Looking for something good to eat in Canary Wharf? Try Karapincha, a new resident kitchen at Fuller’s-owned pub, The Limehouse, for authentic Sri Lankan comfort food.

I dropped by for a media event last week and was impressed with what I got to munch!

Karapincha is the creation of Vasanthini and Dharshini Perumal, two sisters originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka where their family runs one of the country’s most celebrated vegetarian restaurants. Their kitchen residency at The Limehouse is a permanent one, seen by Vasanthini and Dharshini as an opportunity to share the food they grew up eating with London diners. Such folks in Canary Wharf hankering a relaxed setting for a drink and above average and flavoursome pub grub do wise to let these sisters feed you!

Dishes I enjoyed during my dine include fiery vegetable kotthu roti with pineapple curry (£9), Ceylon Veechu paratha with lamb curry (£12.50) and the hoppers (egg and plain). I especially liked the hoppers served with dhal curry and coconut relish (£9).

Pictured above at the top of this post is an egg hopper. I’d highly recommend ordering a couple when you go!

For dessert, watalappan (a coconut and condensed milk custard treat made with jaggery, cashews, cardamom, pandan juice and more) ended the meal on a rich and refreshing note.

Pairing well with all the food was a pint of Fuller’s Frontier (a citrusy lager), complementing the spicy heat of the dishes and uplifting their tropical tone.

Karapincha is located at The Limehouse, 29-30 Fishermans Walk, 10 Cabot Square, E14 4DH.
