Best Burgers of 2019

Best Burgers of 2019

Made to order just the way you like ‘em … or at least the way I like ‘em.

My Best of 2019 series continues with a ravenous look at the most awesome burgers I had this year.

Please note, this list merely reflects how I chose to spend my time during the year and is comprised of well established and brand new venues as well as businesses that are somehow related to where work and play took me.

Items appear in alphabetic order, not ranked.

Best Burgers in London

Burger & Beyond
147 Shoreditch High Street, Hackney, E1 6JE

The Bacon Butter Burger with dry aged beef, double American cheese, crisp pancetta, onion and burnt butter mayo is indeed the burger you’re looking for.

Camden Town Roadkill
Camden Market, The North Yard, The Stables Market, 842 Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8BF

Camden Town Roadkill operates as a two-in-one butchery and grill. All meat is sourced direct from one Yorkshire farm and all ingredients are British. Owners Matthew Gregson-Jones and partner Jamie Patel aim to keep Roadkill as as ethical and environmentally friendly as possible with a commitment not to have single-use plastic and to minimise food wastage. The Roadkill cheeseburger? It’s to die for.

Five Guys
Several outlets across London
Five Guys’ Little Cheeseburger isn’t all that little and, made with a 3.3 ounce chuck and sirloin blended patty, is certainly full of big flavour. It’s also one of my favourite things to eat.

This is the third year in a row this venue has made my ‘best of’ list for Burgers in London.

Halo Burger

Pop Brixton, 49 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PQ

So a quality burger isn’t just a stack of beef. Worth trekking across London to devour (I’ve done so twice), Halo’s vegan burgers with Beyond Meat patties are delish! I predict this newbie fast food eatery’s outpost in Brixton will soon spread across town – and that would be a great thing (and the nearer to my neck of the woods the better)!

This is the second year in a row this venue has made my ‘best of’ list for Burgers in London.

Mooshies London Vegan Burger Bar
104 Brick Lane, E1 6RL

I would confidently take carnivore friends to dine at this vegan burger bar.

Shake Shack
Several outlets across London

When a burger craving hits, it’s hard to beat a ShackBurger (100% Aberdeen Angus beef cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce).

This is the second year in a row this venue has made my ‘best of’ list for Burgers in London.

Best Burgers Beyond London

Green Barn
Burtown House, Burtown Little, Athy, County Kildare, R14 AE67, Ireland

The Green Barn at Burtown House offers farm to table dining including an amazing burger made from Dexter beef reared on the Burtown House farm.

Louis’ Lunch
261 Crown Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06511, United States

Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut is recognised by the Library of Congress as the Birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich. Louis’ Original Burger is a juicy homage to America’s resourcefulness and quest for flavour.

Luce
InterContinental San Francisco, 888 Howard Street, San Francisco, California 94103, United States

This upscale and airy space serves a majorly satisfying cheeseburger that pairs perfectly with all the excellent California reds in the restaurant’s cellar.

Son of a bun
28 MacCurtain Street, Victorian Quarter, Cork, Ireland

“The Black” consists of two 3oz patties, Clonakilty black pudding, American cheese and onion … and was probably the yummiest burger I had this year.

Ted’s Hot Dogs
2312 Sheridan Dr, Tonawanda, NY 14150, United States

Go for the charcoal broiled hot dogs, stay for the cheeseburgers.

More of the best of 2019 to follow!
