How To Choose the Right Airport Shuttle Service

You’ve planned your big vacation, your bags are already packed in your head, and you can’t wait to feel the sand between your toes. There’s just one thing you’re dreading: the drive to the airport. Who says you need to do the driving at all, though?

With a bit of planning, you can skip the traffic and parking nightmares and let an airport shuttle service drop you off at the door instead.

Pick the Right Size Shuttle

Are you traveling by yourself or with other people? Tally the total number of travelers you’ll have with your group before booking a shuttle service. Two or three people can fit comfortably into a luxury sedan, and medium-sized groups are likely to travel well in an SUV. If you are traveling with a very large group, such as one from a school, you’ll likely need to book a charter bus. Whether you’re traveling by yourself or with 10 other people, don’t forget to factor in luggage. Three people will fit into a sedan, but will all of your luggage fit into the trunk? If not, size up.

Research the Service’s Reputation

Research the company’s reputation when searching for a Houston Airport shuttle. Naturally, you’ll want to verify license and insurance information, but you’ll also want to read reviews from former clients to see if the drivers were friendly. Did they arrive on time and drive responsibly? Were the shuttles clean and well-maintained? Compare at least three places before choosing one to ensure you’re getting the best service for your budget.

Calculate Additional Costs

Most shuttle services provide a flat rate that you pay per passenger. Some have rates that gradually rise depending on distance, and a few charge by the mile. In addition to the flat rate, there may be an additional pick-up fee, and if the shuttle has a baggage allowance rule, expect to be charged fees for any excess baggage. Keep in mind that many shuttles don’t allow pets or provide car seats. If these situations apply to you, check first. If the shuttle shows up and you can’t use it, you will likely still be charged at least part of the cost as a cancellation fee.

Remember to book your shuttle service well in advance of your trip. Schedule your pickup for at least two hours ahead of your flight, keeping in mind any holidays or other expected traffic delays. If you aren’t sure how much extra time to add, ask the company for its recommendation. Happy traveling!
