Cooped Up? Comporta!

Feeling cooped up? You’re not alone (well maybe you actually are alone and that’s part of the reason you feel the way you do, but you know know what I mean). Everybody’s longing to spread out, explore, and enjoy a change of scenery.

I’m certainly no different. My travel yearnings have struck especially hard over these past few weeks. Christmas is done, winter gloom lingers, and daily life is more humdrum than usual. Obviously, Covid-19 has put one hell of a damper on the prospect of pursuing all sorts of activities that normally would help me kick the January blues.

Oh Yeah! I Love It There!

So, I’ve been letting my mind drift a little more than I otherwise might, remembering all the places I love most and dreaming about other destinations I’ve yet to experience but really want to.

Near the top of my wish list are ideas such as heading back to the US for a long overdue catch up with family and close friends. I’m envisioning a coast-to-coast road trip visiting old haunts with a new perspective and places I’ve never been with folks I’ve known and loved for years.

Dreaming big, I’m fixated on the idea of taking a small scale cruise to the Marquesas, a far-flung Polynesian archipelago with limited access to the outside world due to next to no natural harbours and little land for airstrips or runways.

Portugal in Particular

One place I’m most keen to visit as soon as I can is Portugal. A little closer to home, it’s pretty easy and quick to get to from London. The weather’s all but guaranteed to be gorgeous anytime of year. There are places I’ve been to (a few even a couple or more times already) and very much would like to return to again and a variety of other spots I’ve been meaning to checkout but haven’t been able to yet.

As for somewhere I’d like to go back to, years ago I visited the small seaside town of Comporta. That trip was all too brief – just enough time to realise I craved more of Comporta – the seafood, the seaside, the seafood, the sunshine. This lovely coastal Alentejo town was the final stop of any amazing two week tour of Portugal. It would be wonderful to have another stopover there with way more relaxed downtime than previously.

Where Else?

There’s plenty more I could add to where I want to visit this year and beyond. I reckon as soon as safe and feasible to do so I’ll fly down to Portugal while continuing to make plans to bigger adventures in American and the South Pacific.

How about you? Where are you aching to set off to? What travel plans are you making?
