The Best Locations in France for Camping

During the whole 2020, camping has become the safest way to go on vacation, preserving our individual and familiar safety and being able to respect every social distancing rule. Thanks to an accurate policy of amenities’ improvement and marketing, in slightly more than a year France has become the homeland of camping for every tourist coming from the rest of Europe.

An insight that allowed France to preserve its tourist attractiveness – or at least a peculiar form of it – during the sharpest pandemic period, gathering many visitors inside its top-notch accommodation facilities “en plein air”.

It took just 12 months to France to place itself on top of the most wanted camping destinations. But what are the best sites on French territory? Which ones are the most visited so far? And which ones are still yet to be discovered by mass tourism? Let’s take a closer look.

Normandy

Formerly, this region was an authentic crossroads of different cultures, and the vestiges of several communities followed one upon the other throughout the centuries are still visible all over its territory. Normandy is especially recommended for those who are trying to escape the big summer heat of the Mediterranean shores, and prefer a moderate climate. And last but not least, for what concerns the camping establishment, this is the region with the most family-friendly French campsites

Camargue

One of the most fascinating regions of France, located along the Mediterranean banks, around the Rhone River delta, approximately between Montpellier and Martigues. Provence and Cote d’Azur are both very close, as well as a cluster of characteristic cities like Marseille. But the region doesn’t need any support to charm the visitor, since it reveals one of the most astonishing landscapes of all Europe, with its swamps (partially similar to the American Everglades) and a large variety of wildlife species. Especially recommended for those who are looking for a full immersion into the unspoiled nature.

Corse

Camping in France does not just mean choosing a location in the continental area. This island, Napoleon Bonaparte’s birthplace, offers a valid alternative, especially for those who want to plunge into the purest wilderness. With the vantage point of having the best glimpse of Mediterranean constantly within sight.

Eastern Pyrenees

Do you want to enjoy the rare view of uncontaminated mountains in the heart of Europe? This is the destination for you. The furthest edge of the mountain range that separates France and Spain, running from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, is wild, barren, sometimes harsh, but also rewarding with its amazing landscapes, suspended between the sky and the sea. And on top of that, the city of Perpignan, located in the heart of the region, is an authentic jewel.
