It’s been a week since I shared about my new year’s resolution to start blogging more regularly. So here I am eight days into January, resolved and ready to write.
But what am I going to write about? I’ve got nothing.
Am I suffering writer’s block? I don’t think so. I just don’t feel like I have much to say about anything in particular. However, falling short of having a compelling topic to blog about reminds me of instances when I did have writer’s block. What sometimes worked for me then – especially when I had a deadline or another pressing time constraint – was simply to carry on writing, even when I knew I wouldn’t be creating my best work. Often, the act itself would allow me to ‘discover’ a good idea. Writing for the sake of writing usually led to me being able to produce better work later down the line as well.
So, despite not having anything specific to write about today, I reckon I still should take advantage of this opportunity this morning to work through the process. My goal is to ‘keep at it’ and exercise my creative muscles in order to improve my skills and be more capable to tap into inspiration whenever it may come my way.
The more I write, the easier writing will be and the more ideas I will come up with.
Right now, practicing writing is more important than choosing what to write about. Persistence improves skill. So does accepting that it’s okay for me to be less than exceptional every now and again. So even when I don’t have anything specific to write about, I’m going to keep at it.
