Featuring some of Mexico’s best tequilas paired with “the world’s finest prison food”, The Reconciliation at A Fluid State will see attendees enter a Texas style slammer where they’ll have their mugshots taken as they’re checked in by formidable prison guards, issued standard prison wear and “drug tested” before being let loose in the recreation yard.

British Road Trip? I’d Love to!
The longer I live in Britain the more I realize there’s a lot of this country that I’ve yet to see. I think I’ve done a pretty good job getting out and about to get an idea of what it’s like beyond the London sprawl but there’s still so many places I feel I ought to visit.
Usually when travelling around the UK, I try to take the trains. I’ve been fairly satisfied with this choice, but let’s face it – this mode of transportation is not without its hassles: the ever looming possibility of delays and cancellations, having to conform my plans to the not always convenient rail schedules, confusing pricing and booking policies and of course the expense! Sometimes the closest station to my destination still isn’t walking distance to my destination and, thus, requiring even further modes of transport.
Aside from the mess that is London traffic and the M25 motorway, I’ve found driving in Britain to be a pleasure for the most part. The few times I’ve hired a car, I’ve really enjoyed it … especially out on country roads in the Cotswolds, Wales and Scotland. My experience with London car rental has been overall positive and is an option I’m keeping in mind more and more. Indeed, I’ve got a trip to the countryside coming up in the next couple of weekends that might have me behind the wheel of a rental car yet again.
British road trip? I’d be up for that!

Dead Set on Having Fun in Mexico City (Qype Community)
Dead Set on Having Fun in Mexico City
Qype Community, November 8th 2010
If you ever get a chance to visit Mexico City during the Day of the Dead festivities don’t think twice, just go. I reckon this Meso-American megalopolis is a delicious, vivid and fun place to be anytime of year, but come the end of October the whole cuidad seems to turn into one big Aztec-tinged Halloween fiesta that’s bizarrely as sombre and macabre as it is fun: Kids done up like vampires and spooks roaming the streets for candies and coins, fancy dress parties and paper mache skeletons everywhere … it’s a hoot. Here are just a few highlights from my recent trip.

New Restaurant Review: Pizza Metro Pizza

Taking the short walk from Notting Hill Gate Station to the few months old Pizza Metro Pizza, you’ll pass at least three other pizzerias (the usual suspects such as Ask and Pizza Express). But based upon the experience of our invited visit, you’ll probably be doing yourself a favour by ignoring the rest of the lot and heading straight to this fledgling sister resto of the nearly 20 years old Battersea eatery that shares the same name.

London Style?
Can you tell a Londoner by the way s/he dresses? I think I can. I might not be able to put my finger on it exactly, but there’s just something about the way London folk get dudded up that distinguishes them from the rest of the globe’s urban dwelling lot. Compared to world fashion capitals such as New York (where I lived before moving to London), Paris and Milan, people here in London don’t seem to be nearly as afraid to take a few sartorial chances, to show a bit of colour and to use what they wear as a means of expression. So often in big cities, black and grey uniforms of whatever are the popular designers/trends/brands dominate how people present themselves. There’s definitely a bit of that going on here, but just a lot less than in other places I’ve visited.
Watching the world go by from the window of a cafe off Oxford Street on this drab November morning, it’s certainly discernible who’s the local and who’s the visitor (but one thing’s for sure: both like to shop). Individual clothing preferences obviously vary to a great extent. Still beyond class, income and lifestyle, there seems to be a common thread. From the City worker in the pinstripe suit, loud(ish) shirt and clashing tie to the Shoreditch hipster trying to squeeze everything 80s into a primly messed up mélange, London clothing seems to be about taking risks and not taking oneself too seriously.

What Would You do with an Extra £40,000?
PayPal have launched a brilliant prize draw promotion that gives everyone who enters the chance to win £40000. Find it at www.paypal.co.uk/win.
Consider, if you will, how you would go about spending an extra £40,000 if it were somehow added to whatever you already made in a year. For folks that use PayPal for online purchases, this dream could become a reality. All anyone has to do is buy something with PayPal, and they are automatically entered into the weekly prize draw. And the more you buy the more chances you get, because you’re automatically entered every single time you buy with PayPal.
What would I do with an extra 40 grand? Hmmm … well, I’m doing some work in Mexico City at the moment and absolutely loving it. Being able to extend my stay or visit again soon would be fab. I’d probably buy a lot of camera gear as well. And a bit of art. I’d throw a massive party for my friends too. I had a helluva summer and there were a few peeps who were really there for me – having significantly more moola in the bank would go a long way toward showing them some festive appreciation. Aside from that, I’d travel a little more and, with any money left over, I’d just save and/or invest it and give a couple of small chunks to some favourite charities.
Not familiar with PayPal or uncertain what to buy as a way to be eligible for the weekly draw? The following websites rely on PayPal for online shoppers and offer all sorts of reasonably priced goodies:

Wine! But Where to Buy it?
Whether thirsting for something from Rioja, Mendoza or Mosel, something high end and unique or cheap-n-cheerful, to wow a host or treat a guest, there’s a plethora of options, often to a bewildering extent. Choosing the right wine for the right occasion can be difficult and even more challenging is actually finding the time to browse for that perfect bottle. The fact of the matter is that sometimes you’re just in too much of a rush or that you simply want something inexpensive and ‘good enough’ for a nice, quiet evening at home.
However, finding good wine merchants doesn’t have to be such a struggle. If you live in London, I can highly recommend checking out Berry Bros & Rudd and Bibendum – both for their range of product and customer service. Wine bar and shop Vinoteca on St John Street is a great one to keep in mind as well, especially if you’re keen for personable service and advice.
Of course, it’s not just the major players and the local indie shops that come in handy. I’ve come across brill quaffs at local supermarkets and chains. I’ve found Nicolas wine shops particularly worthwhile in the past and was really rather surprised to discover a wonderfully downable bottle of Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir was purchased by a house guest at my nearby Tesco Metro. So, it’s reassuring knowing that, when in a pinch (for money or time) even the local whatever probably has something decent for your tastes.
