Wine of the Month by @willbedwards: Pol Roger ‘White Foil’ Brut
Champagne is a wine intimately linked to celebration and festivities, and Christmas is the one day of the year when the ‘wine o’clock’ rule is entirely disregarded. Wine, and particularly Champagne, makes a wonderful gift at Christmas; or if like me you are just choosing a breakfast tipple, then the Pol Roger ‘White Foil’ Brut is a perfect candidate. Continue reading
Wine of the Month by @willbedwards: Le Petit Roy 12eme année, Domaine Jean Royer
Here’s a new wine review from tikichris contributor Will Edwards, a “wine and food enthusiast who has fled the idyllic hills of Devon for the golden streets of London. A “relative newbie” to the world of wine, Will works in the Chelsea shop of independent wine merchants Lea & Sandeman where he loves “to hear what our customers are enjoying to drink”. These days – and just in time for nippy autumn – a good many of these Chelsea shoppers seem keen on Le Petit Roy 12eme année, Domaine Jean Royer. Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Apres Le Pluie, Rosé, 2013 Domaine Jones, Languedoc
Okay, so it’s been a few months since my last WOTM write up. What can I say? I’ve been busy. Too busy to drink good wine? Of course not – just too slammed working on other stuff to blog about any of the commendable wines I’ve been sipping. Sorry. Anyway, I have a bit time on my hands today as well as a glass of a rather delicious quaff actually in hand. So, without further ado, here’s my Wine of the Season review of the very enjoyable Apres Le Pluie, Rosé, 2013 Domaine Jones, Languedoc, France. Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Soryu Koshu 2010
Japanese wine … yes, by “wine” as in fermented grape juice. Who knew? Not me until very recently when I attended the fourth annual Koshu of Japan UK Trade and Press Tasting late last month at the Westbury Hotel. Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2011 Monte delle Vigne Lambrusco 2011
It’s crimson and velvety. It sparkles. It even comes from the ancestral lands of St Valentine. So why Lambrusco isn’t the official wine for couples celebrating Valentine’s Day is a bit beyond me. Having recently tried Monte delle Vigne Lambrusco 2011 during a low key and rather romantic evening out, I thought this lightly frizzante vino rosso would make a fine choice for February’s Wine of the Month. Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Sophie’s Reserve Rouge 2011 – House Red at Sophie’s Steakhouse
One aspect to my lunch at Sophie’s still stands out as exceptional: the house red. Sophie’s Reserve Rouge 2011, IGP d’Oc is a great wine. At £4.75 for a 175ml glass and £16.95 for a bottle it’s great value too. A blend of Syrah and Grenache created by the restaurant’s “own team”, I liked it from the first sip and thought is was an especially smart and easy drinker to go with red meat. Good ‘n’ juicy with a medium body, it’d be a nice one to drink on its own if slipping into Sophie’s for an evening at the comfortable (and I hearing ridiculously popular) bar. Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Bouchard Aîné & Fils, Crémant de Bourgogne, Brut, 2007
Oh sure, Champagne gets all the credit this festive time of year. But before you pop open another bottle of tried and true champers, consider some of your other fizzy options. Bouchard Aîné & Fils Brut 2007 is December’s Wine … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Cave du Château de Chénas, Moulin à Vent 2010
I grabbed a bottle of this Cru du Beaujolais after a bout of consternation and staring blankly at a wall o’ wine at Waitrose. I was trying to find something that would go well with turkey; yep, this was the … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Beaumont des Crayères Grande Réserve Brut NV
Yeah, crappy photo I know. But when I sat down to write my latest WOTM review, I realized the quaff pictured above was a way more interesting wine than the one I had slated to review and had taken nice pictures … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Lamoretti, Colli di Parma, Malvasia 2011
A lightly fizzy bargain of a delicate and fresh white from the hills outside of Parma, Lamoretti’s sparkling Malvasia is nowhere near as famous as the region’s two most popular exports, Parma ham and Parmigiano Reggiano. Nevertheless, it’s a mouthwateringly … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Blue Nun Rivaner Riesling
No really. It’s good. A very chilled bottle of this fruity German quencher is as easy on the palate as it is on the wallet. As an expat American, a sip of this the long established, and once wildly popular, … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Bouchard Aine & Fils, Beaune, Clos du Roi, Cuvee Signature 2009
Wow. Earthy onion soup bouquet (like you wish your mom used to make for you). Cherry and black currant depth on the tongue, followed by a rich licorice aftertaste. Bouchard Aine & Fils, Beaune, Clos du Roi, Cuvee Signature 2009 … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2006 Domaine Nathalie & Gilles Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
This month’s WOTM features another fantastic bottle picked up last month in Burgundy. As made deliciously clear during my trip, what makes Bourgogne wine so damn fine is the terroir. And Domaine Nathalie & Gilles Fèvre’s range of Grand Cru … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Jaffelin Bouzeron 2005
If you’re even a cursory reader of this blog, it should come as no surprise that, for my latest WOTM post, I’ve gone with a wine I tried while in Burgundy. While having a fantastic lunch at La Ciboulette, a modest … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2010 Sancerre Blanc, André Dezat
Forgive that off colour staining on the label in the above pic, but I was cooking while quaffing and thoroughly enjoying both when a bit of sauce splashed out onto the bottle of this 2010 Sancerre blanc … this crisp, … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2010 La Cadène, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Domaine Chaume Arnaud
A mostly good but very long week rolled up to a quiet Friday night at home. Having this Côtes du Rhône white in the fridge was a relief. A simple but satisfying mozzarella salad, some taramosalata on toast and a … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2010 Berrys’ Argentina Malbec, Pulenta, Mendoza
Valentine’s Day came late at tikichris towers this year. A week late actually, on Pancake Day. So maybe next week I’ll get around to doing a little pancake flipping in honour of the belated celebration. Until then, I bring you … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2007 Château Marsau, Côtes de Francs
I love it when one blog post segues nicely into another. In this case my recipe review of Marcus Wareing’s cheeseburgers presented a tasty excuse to pop open this month’s WOTM, 2007 Château Marsau, Côtes de Francs. Best enjoyed with food, … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2010 Berrys’ Chianti, Badia a Coltibuono, Tuscany
Yes, I’m well aware that it’s been more than a year and a half since my last WOTM review. Hey, just trying to live life these days sometimes gets in the way of trying to live the good life – … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2009 Juliénas, Les Paquelets, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Eve & Michel Rey
This month’s pick is a flavourful number! Available from Berry Bros & Rudd for £15.50 per single bottle, 2009 Juliénas, Les Paquelets Vieilles Vignes, Domain Eve & Michel Rey is a feisty Beaujolais demanding of taste bud attention. Dark and … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2008 Macon Bussieres, Le Monsard Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon
Tough times deserve great wine. Now, by no means am I suggesting anyone try to drink his or her problems away or seek solutions at the bottom of a bottle, but a good glass of wine can go a long … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2009 Chateau Plantey Canteloup Rosé Bordeaux
Ah yes. Another bank holiday weekend … with lousy weather of course. No worries though. I’m quite content to have a Saturday night in and let the pizza delivery dude brave the rain for me. I’m especially pleased to be … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2007 Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2007 Extra Ordinary White
This month’s choice brings a taste of zest to the palate and is sipped with earnest hopes for a lovely summer. Indeed, with its light and lemony finish, Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2007 Extra Ordinary White is a winner of … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2007 Vacqueyras, Les Garrigues, Domaine Montirius
This one’s a lip smacker! A certified organic and biodynamic lip smacker. Priced £12.25 at Berry Bros & Rudd (or £11 per bottle for an unsplit case of 12), this southern Rhone blend (70% Grenache, 30% Syrah) is a juicy, … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: 2006 Mâcon-Cruzille, Bret Brothers Paired with Neil Young’s Rust Never Sleeps
An on-again-off-again sunny Saturday afternoon here in London – still cold but with an ever so slight feel of spring in the air – presents a perfect time to sip February’s Wine of the Month. A crisp and honeysuckle-y white … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2007 Domaine de Coudoulet Viognier, Vin de Pays D’Oc
Upon first tasting, I didn’t quite know what to make of this one. I was immediately intrigued when I gave the cork and then my glassful a good whiff but then didn’t think my initial sip equalled my nosed expectations. … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2005 Extra Ordinary Claret
I don’t know about you, but for me the first half of December is always a mad dash of tying up loose ends before Christmas and New Years, making sure I see all the folks I need to see for … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2007 Chateau Ricardelle, Alencades, Vin de Pays d’Oc
Last week, I settled in for a quiet Friday night at home with a bowl of pasta with sugo al finocchio selvatico (fennel sauce … from Carluccio’s), a DVD and a couple of glasses of 2007 Alencades and found the combo … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2007 Côtes du Rhône Rouge Domaine Chapoton
Nice one! Honestly, I don’t care for it as much as the Claret I reviewed last month, but there’s certainly nothing offensive about this month’s choice. At £7.55 per bottle (£6.80 as part of a case) the price is definitely right. … Continue reading
Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd’s Good Ordinary Claret
It’s perfectly understandable why Berry Bros & Rudd’s Good Ordinary Claret is their best selling wine. It’s delicious – and at £7.30 for an individual bottle, it’s a bargain! If I had the room, I’d be inclined to purchase a … Continue reading
