Review: El Dorado Rum and Rococo Chocolate Pairing at Barrio Soho

El Dorado 21 Year Old Special Reserve - DSC_3433

Award-winning rum paired with award-winning chocolate? There’s no prize for assuming Barrio Soho’s recent El Dorado Demerara Rums and Rococo Chocolate pairing was a deeply flavourful success!

The event saw El Dorado’s Brand Ambassador, Dean Macgregor, and Rococo’s Retail and Event Manager, Sam Smallman suggest a range of chocolate pairings to accompany El Dorado’s 12, 15 and 21 year old rums.

Best rum of the night? I’m torn between the 15 Year Old Special Reserve and the 21 Year Old Special Reserve, but maybe the 21 wins by an edge (it’s no more drinkable or delicious – just more interesting and complex). As for the chocs, Rococo’s Cardamom Organic Dark Chocolate Artisan Bar was a dream nibble. Ideal pairing for the night (for me – just one of a full house – anyway) was the 15 year old with a Peru Single Origin 63% bar: a dynamic duo of coffee tone and vanilla depth.

Let’s hope this is not the last of the El Dorado/Rococo love fest (though the prospect of trying El Dorado paired with different chocolates – and Rococo paired with different rums certainly sounds appetizing). Let us also keep optimistic that such an event is just a taste of things to come at Barrio Soho (or any of London’s other Barrio venues).
