Good Stuff #53

Good stuff and lots of it! Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip or savour – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.

Asda SS16

I dropped by Asda’s recent unveiling of its range of spring and summer
“delights” and indeed did have a few delightful bites while foraging through the event. Big flavoured American influence (fine by me) was on full display with the tastiest highlights including cornballs, slaw, tacos with flatiron steak, and pastrami, as well as more decidedly British items such as black pudding sausage rolls.

Franciacorta Tasting with Honest Grapes at Boucheron

Largely unknown beyond Lombardy hills where its grown and deeply under appreciated, Franciacorta is Italian sparkling wine made in the méthode champenoise with Chardonnay and/or Pinot Noir grapes. I enjoyed a sip through a fine range of Franciacorta’s best at a recent Honest Grapes tasting hosted by Tom Harrow (aka the Wine Chap).

Quite often a far more elegant expression of bubbly Italian gusto than the typical prosecco, there’s a Francianacorta on the market to suit just about any palate or budget. Look for it a variety of London shops, bars, and restaurants including L’Amina, Berry Bros & Rudd, Locanda Locatelli, Outlaw’s at the Capital, Sartoria, Selfridges, and Whole Foods Market.

As brilliant as the wines were at the tasting, they weren’t the only things sparkling. The event was held in the bedazzling showroom of the high-end jewellery boutique, Boucheron, on Bond Street.

Heat Holders

Spring technically be on its way in just a matter of weeks, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s frickin’ cold now! So I was pleased to receive a couple sample products from Heat Holders – namely a pair of super warm socks and an equally cozy pair of gloves. For snug, durable thermal products at a decent price, Heat Holders are hard to best. Here’s hoping I can put my socks and gloves away for another year soon!

Turtle Doves Cashmere

Speaking of keeping warm in cold weather – and doing it in style and comfort – I’m impressed with Turtle Doves’ range of cashmere accessories made with recycled post-consumer “waste” in Britain. Kemey’s impressed too. The top-selling fingerless Turtle Doves Gloves that showed up in the post soon went from package to wrist, with Kemey wearing them during most trips out.
