Good stuff and lots of it!
Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip, savour and more (though with respect to this particular post just to sip) – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.
Distilled on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides and infused with hand harvested sugar kelp, Isle of Harris Gin is an especially tasty gin with a touch of salinity and a flavour profile suggestive of a fresh sea breeze. It comes in an especially attractive spiral designed bottle. Look for it at a recommended retail price of £35.
Metaxa is a Greek spirit made of aged wine distillates and Muscat wine from the island of Samos with natural flavourings. It’s delicious value for money and a great drink to savour as you would a top quality (and probably much more expensive) whisky or Cognac. Metaxa recently released a “12 Star” blend of brandy aged for up to 12 years with Muscat. It’s figgy and rich with floral notes and long finish. I love it. Pick up a bottle from £25 at a wide variety of shops and online retailers.
I received a very refreshing range of vegan beers to sample (believe it or not most beers made today are brewed using animal products). Among the ones I particularly liked were a malty and fruity 312 Urban Wheat Ale and Sophie, a zesty Belgian style ale with a creamy vanilla finish. Both are from Chicago’s Goose Island Beer Co. Lyons Coffee Bags are “100% fresh roasted coffee in a handy coffee bag.” Think: teabags but with coffee. I sampled Lyons’ No 3 “rich and full bodied” bag. I’m not sure this concept will replace my preferred ways to come up with a cuppa but I am fairly impressed with the results and would recommend giving these bags a try if you’re looking for a quick coffee option without compromising too much on flavour.
