Head for the Heel

Antonella's Pasticciotto Lecce

Let’s head for the heel with Judith Schrut as she shares highlights from her recent visit to the sunny south of Italy.

The heel of Italy’s beauteous boot might be summed up in three words: past, present and Primitivo. Just add pasta, panini and pasticciotto and you’ve pretty much got the main ingredients of this wonderful place.

Trulli of Alberobello

Stay tuned for plenty of posts on my recent travels by bike, van and foot, along with a lively bunch of Italian journalists, bloggers and Instagrammers, exploring the many faces of this region. I visited wonders of nature— like underground caves, deep ravines, miles of pristine coastline, and fertile valleys whose bounty feeds Italy and the world with wine, wheat, olive oil and almonds. I saw wonders of human ingenuity— like white-coned trulli, stunning Baroque architecture, towns perched on hilltops, and imaginative sandwiches filled with over a dozen ingredients. And this being Italy, I certainly enjoyed lots of tasty food and drink.
