Lucky 13

Lucky 13

2019 is the 13th anniversary of tikichris.com.

I’m marking the seemingly inauspicious milestone with Lucky 13: a yearlong miniseries about 13 places to eat and drink that helped shape and define what I love about the London food and drink scene.

Today tikichris.com tends to be about travel as much as it is specifically rambling around London, to feature podcast episodes as an increasingly important element compared to typical blog posts, and to rely to some degree on the work of a few contributors. But for most of the time I’ve had it, the gist of this blog has been me writing about (and mostly reviewing) restaurants, bars and related eateries across London.

These days, I’m as up for interviewing people as I am for critiquing what they’ve done, for cooking at home as much as eating out, and for discovering great food any and everywhere I may roam.

Of course, my crush on London remains steadfast. I’m keen to keep exploring it, particularly with respect to where to enjoy a meal or grab a drink. However, London has changed a lot since 2006. As I carry on exploring it from a diner’s perspective, I find myself reminiscing more and more about what won me over when I first made this city my home in 2001 and later in 2006 when I began covering London as a food writer.

So I thought I’d share some of these reflections by taking the time to revisit and write about a baker’s dozen of old haunts, stalwart establishments and perennial favourites that still seem to be going strong and remain well worth recommending.

Hang tight. I’ll be back before too long with my first look at one of these Lucky 13 places.
