Good Stuff #89

Good Stuff #89

Good stuff and lots of it!

Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip, savour and more – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.

Why Cities Look the Way They Do

According to Richard J Williams, a city “is not built; it is lived.” In his newly released book, Why Cities Look the Way They Do published by Polity, Williams looks beyond architecture and design to get to the character of urban environments and consider the results of not just the work of planners and designers but the people who use, appropriate and repurpose its spaces for everyday life. It’s a fun and insightful read. Prices for Why Cities Look the Way They Do start at £15.99 for paperback copies and open ebooks.

Solid Cologne UK

Handmade in London, Solid Cologne is a wax based cologne/aftershave made with natural wax and skin friendly cologne that’s rubbed directly on the skin. It’s ideal for dudes who like to smell nice when they fly but don’t want to bother wondering how many millilitres a bottle is or having to cram another item into one of those small clear plastics bags to show all their toiletries when going through security at the airport. There’s no reason to worry about spills or stains either. Solid Cologne comes in a range of scents in handy little easy to open, secure-shut tins. I like the Alexander scent (patchouli, oak moss, and ambergris). Prices start at £14.99.

Gorgias London Oil Based Shampoos and Conditioners

Contrary to what you might think Gorgias London’s oil based and haircare products don’t leave your hair oily and greasy. Rather, these organic and paraben-free shampoos and conditioners are made with high levels of vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids, to help protect, detangle and replenish your hair for a vibrant healthy look and feel while nourishing your hair and scalp. I’ve been using Gorgias’ Coconut Oil Extract shampoo and conditioner (£14.99 each per 300ml bottle) for my daily wash. I love the fragrance and the feel! Results are nice too – more shine than what I’m accustomed to with products I might normally use.

Teapigs Single Estate Breakfast Tea

Whole leaf tea company, teapigs, has created its first single-estate Rwandan tea exclusively for Waitrose & Partners. With each purchase of a pack of this strong breakfast tea, a 50p donation goes to the teapigs ethical scheme which supports educational projects in the tea growing region. The tea is available now at Waitrose stores across the UK and online at the teapigs site for £4.50 for a pack of 15 tea “temples.”

The Provence Olive Oil Society

The Provence Olive Oil Society aka Olivence represents distinctive artisan olive oils made in Provence. From the oils that the society promotes, I’ve been enjoying cooking and drizzling with a bottle of Nyons PDO extra virgin oil (16.15 per 50cl bottle) for richer flavour and mouth feel.
