Red Cross Week

Red Cross Week

The week of 6 to 12 May is Red Cross Week here in the UK. It’s a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for a worthy cause.

With Mozambique being hit by an unprecedented two catastrophic cyclones in a matter of weeks; with the vicious bombings of churches and hotels across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday; and with the conflict in Syria now in its ninth year forcing more than 11 million people to flee their homes – the work the Red Cross does is as vital now as ever it has been. Sadly, those above examples of where the Red Cross/Crescent/Crystal is offering crucial support are but three of far too many crises affecting millions of people across the globe.

There are some things (big and small) we can all do to help out.

Keep reading for details (swiped from the Red Cross website) about how you can lend a hand to people in need.

Change lives this May – host a Red Cross tea party!

This spring, people all over the country are coming together to hold Red Cross tea parties. Whether it’s at home, at work or your school, join the movement and show how strong the power of kindness can be!

Between 6-12 May during Red Cross Week, hundreds of people just like you will be holding a bake sale with a difference.

Why not hold your party on Monday 6 May for the bank holiday? Or Wednesday 8 May for World Humanitarian Day?

All you need to do is pick a venue, send out your invites and stock up on tea and delicious treats. Help bring your community together and show the world that a cuppa really can count.

Every cup changes lives.

Right now in your community there are people affected by loneliness. Others may have an injury that affects their career. Some may be struggling to return to normal life after a long stay in hospital. Overseas, natural disasters and conflict destroy people’s homes and leave many without food or clean water.

The money you raise will help us to be there for these people in crisis in the UK and abroad, whoever and wherever they are.

How your donation could help people in crisis:

  • £61 could help keep one of our emergency response vehicles running for a day in the UK, keeping us prepared for a crisis;
  • £100 could provide 10 people in the UK with a wheelchair for a week, to ensure they can keep getting out and about;
  • £200 could help give a meal to around forty people left without electricity in the UK after a power cut or flood.
