A Visit to Jude’s Ice Cream Dairy (Great British Chefs)
Yes, there is a Jude (Judith actually) behind the scenes of this Hampshire-based premium ice cream maker. But the story of her eponymous treats is really about her husband, Theo. Finding himself suddenly and unexpectedly on the other side of a career in banking, Theo had time on his hands along with a bit of capital and a garage in which to tinker. He also had the acumen to realise a huge gap in the British ice cream market and the pluck to go about filling it. Continue reading

Sweet Thursday: De Beauvoir Town Pizzeria Pleases Any Day of the Week
Sweet Thursday is a new(ish) pizzeria and wine shop in De Beauvoir Town. The shop’s unusual name pays homage to a novel by John Steinbeck. Look it up. As far as I’m concerned the Sweet Thursday folks could call their friendly establishment Sour Monday, and I’d still rave about it. The pizzas are proper and the atmosphere ideal for a casual meal any day of the week. Continue reading

Okay, so it’s been a few months since my last WOTM write up. What can I say? I’ve been busy. Too busy to drink good wine? Of course not – just too slammed working on other stuff to blog about any of the commendable wines I’ve been sipping. Sorry. Anyway, I have a bit time on my hands today as well as a glass of a rather delicious quaff actually in hand. So, without further ado, here’s my Wine of the Season review of the very enjoyable Apres Le Pluie, Rosé, 2013 Domaine Jones, Languedoc, France. Continue reading

Sneak Peek at Chocolat Luxe – New Chocolate Whiskey Liqueur
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being among the very first members of the public to taste a new chocolate and whiskey liqueur called Chocolat Luxe. But I can tell you this: Chocolat Luxe is the world’s first fusion of Belgian chocolate, Irish whiskey and cream. It’s the result of three years of development and combines cream, Madagascan vanilla, tripled distilled whiskey and more than 30g of real Belgian chocolate in each bottle. Continue reading
