Guru Event: French Cheese and Wine Pairing at Cafe du Marche (Qype does London)
Guru Event: French Cheese and Wine Pairing at Cafe du Marche
Qype does London, January 7th 2011
As if there were a magical portal leading from a tiny alleyway wedged between Smithfield Market and Charterhouse Square straight to the French countryside, Cafe du Marche has a secret, romantic allure to it. The rustic interiors, attentive service, excellent wine and phenomenal menu make it a safe bet for any special occasion. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Clerkenwell (and that’s really saying a lot); I’m so pleased to announce le Cafe will be hosting a cheese and wine pairing for Qypers on Thursday the 27th of January.

Two Magazines for the Price of One in This Month’s FHM!
It might be cold outside but it’s steamy within the page’s of this month’s FHM. And hotting things up even more, there’s a freebie ish of the biannual FHM Bionic fitness mag included!
With four major sporting stars giving tips and advice on getting in shape and mental preparedness, Bionic might be just the read for me this month! As I’m sure many of you can relate, my brain and body turned to mush over the holidays, and I’m still recovering from the throes of a wicked case of jet lag. Some help finding my stride again and staying on top of my game would be helpful. And with a £1 off FHM discount if you buy online (meaning you only pay £2.90), snatching a copy is a much appreciated no brainer.
Among the four stars sharing their sporting insight is heptathlete Jessica Ennis, with thoughts on obtaining and keeping a “champion’s mentality” through nine simple steps. Simple steps (maybe even baby steps at the moment) sound good to me. According to Jess, “pressure is a good thing … pressure focuses you”. I tend to agree. Although I can’t say I’m always up for it. It would be interesting to read her perspective. A rising star of British athletics (and as much a hottie as any of FHM’s bevy o’ babes), I reckon Jess’s thoughts could provide a healthy dose of inspiration.
That Nicole Sherzinger photo on the cover of this month’s FHM is pretty inspiring as well! Hubba. Find out more at http://www.fhm.com/nicole.

I Came Down from a Mountain Town
I wrote this song last night – a new song for a new year inspired by a couple of recent conversations (one with an old friend, the other with someone I just met). It could do with some touching up but I think it’s a pretty catchy ditty. Anyway, I’ll stop with the video/song posting soon. Don’t worry.

Turn into You
Here’s an old song I wrote about 15 years ago. I flub the intro but I think you’ll get the point.
2011 Resolutions
I’ve been writing a new year’s resolutions post for a couple of years (2009 resolutions, 2010 resolutions) and reckon there’s no reason I should stop now.
I didn’t accomplished everything I set out to do last January – I’m no longer with Baraka, and I didn’t read nearly as much as I’d hoped. But with respect to photography and adventure (often the two were intertwined) this past year was much more fruitful than I could have ever imagined.
This year, I’m keeping my resolutions simple:
1. I want to have even more adventures;
2. I want more (and more interesting) photography projects;
3. I’ve got to quit smoking (if you catch me smoking from the 3rd of January, yell at me);
4. I really should learn at least a little French;
5. I’d like to be more knowledgeable about wine and to be able to choose the right wine for the right occasion with confidence.
Basically, I like how 2010 played out and just want to keep moving in the same direction. I love how I spend much of my time but can certainly acknowledge there’s still plenty of fine tuning to be done.
Happy new year everybody!
Chris
