Hovering sumptuously over Hyde Park Corner with commanding views of the park and Knightsbridge, the Intercontinental Park Lane‘s 112sqm Cinema Suite is one of four signature designer suites and another 56 less-posh but nonetheless swank designer suites introduced by the hotel after its recent £76 million refurbishment. The suite represents the very epitome of urban luxury … but at a price beyond the reach of all but the super rich.

Today’s Eastern Europe: Photo I, Photo You at Calvert22

Photo I, Photo You at Calvert22

The highlights of Photo I, Photo You are many. Among them are the randomly overlapping photo-collages of celebrated Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov. Through his hybridization of various, seemingly unrelated images his works compel the viewer to look closer and read the composition for potential integrity and unity. Similarly, Albanian artist Anri Sala’s squawking and symmetrical super 16 film, Long Sorrow, requires a bit of piece-it-together brainpower from viewers, as they are confronted by the free jazz solo of American saxophonist, Jemeel Moondo who seems to hover above the symmetry of East Berlin’s rows of apartment blocks. Heady stuff to contemplate, nonetheless this visual double-take on the East of Europe’s uncertain stance in today’s world is a worthwhile endeavour.

Within the soulless yet serene corporate confines of an outer West London office park, a well caffeinated education in all things coffee was brewing.  The UK headquarters for global coffeehouse heavyweights, Starbucks, was the scene of the mega-chain’s “Coffee College” day course for journalists and bloggers. The gist was threefold: sing self-praise for Starbucks’ ethical practices, introduce the new Starbucks Flat White and gear up for the new specialist Coffee Master Classes to be held throughout the UK and Ireland.

We’ve been giddily raving about lunchtime street vendingcampeónes Daddy Donkey for just under two years, and all that while we’ve been keenly pleased with their slow cooked/fast food Mexican menu, especially their gorgeous and creamy guac. So, when we got our grubby lil hands on Daddy D’s guacamole recipe we were most definitely chuffed.

Sunday, the 7th of February is Yorkshire Pudding Day. Who knew? Apparently, last year marked the inauguration of this presumedly PR-driven holiday, which is to fall on the first Sunday of February. Still, there are far less deliciously British things celebrated throughout the year. Besides, this albeit goofy excuse to feast also yields an excellent reason to visit The Restaurant at St Paul’s (a dining establishment Londonist heartily recommends to anyone interested in fine British cuisine).

Chutney Mary has garnered considerable praise since opening in 1990. Twice it’s received Good Curry Guide’s Best Indian Restaurant in the UK award as well as the London Restaurant Award as the Indian Restaurant of the Year and Square Meal Guide’s Best Modern Indian Restaurant in London on several occasions. … PizzaExpress will introduce a new line up of starters, pizzas and one pasta dish created by celebrated Calabrian chef, Francesco Mazzei. Known for his much lauded upscale Italian restaurant L’Anima in the City of London, Mazzei spent the past six months working alongside PizzaExpress’s executive chef, Antonio Romani, to develop the six signature dishes that comprise his Italian Hot menu.

Campo Viejo’s Viva el Vino campaign at Rebato’s Wine & Tapas Bar has diners choosing their wine without deciding what to eat and then being presented with a selection of food matched to their chosen wine. Control freaks and ultra connoisseurs might snub at this idea. However, others may find it a fun way to experience the best bits of a restaurant’s menu. In the case of Rebato’s, this wine first option is a novel way to sample a variety of satisfyingly homey dishes.
