It was a muggy day yesterday and, to reach Mayfair’s Cavendish Hotel in time to sample the hotel’s latest addition to its cocktail menu, Londonist bravely had to endure one of those oppressively hot and sticky Tube rides that sucks the very essence from otherwise perfectly healthy bodies. Once out of the icky and into the cosy nook that is this Jermyn Street hotel’s nook of a lobby bar and within a few sips, the refreshment of the Cavendish’s new Mar”tea”ni cocktail proved well worth the journey.

Shiny and pedestrian Canvey Street is starting to have all the hallmarks of a true foodie rendezvous. As mentioned on a few occasions, Tsuru offers top notch Nippon nosh, and the Canvey Street location of Del’Aziz is just as pleasant as the recently opened Bermondsey Square Del’Aziz. We’re happy to attest that the Refinery Bar offers yet another reason to eat at Canvey Street.

Ah yes, another brilliant event for Qypers! This time a Saturday evening outing with good ole Figaro, Susanna, Count and Countess Almaviva, Cherubino and all the rest of the wacky gang from Mozart’s masterful “Le Nozze di Figaro”. Yep, Qype went to the opera and (yet again) an amazing evening of phenomenal (and free) fun proved the worth of signing up and following along in Qype groups such as Qypers Love Events, where details about this event were first mentioned.

Puttiki Art Show: 28-30 August & 4-6 September at Hunny Lu Lu’s in Hastings
This is just a quick note to say I’ll have a few photos on display as part of the Puttiki Art Show at Hunny Lu Lu’s in Hastings at the end of this summer. The exhibition will also feature five other artists, including two of my tiki faves: tikiracer and Atomic Tony Tiki. I think there will be mini-golf, cocktails and more as part of the fun. Wahoo!

Interviewing Paul Insect is a frustrating affair. Don’t get me wrong – he’s a natural storyteller and as affable as anybody I’d be apt to sit down with for a bit of conversation over a pint or two at the pub. But, the problem is that so much of what he has been up to and wants to share is “off the record”. Yes, the man lives a fascinating life, but those familiar with his provocative art are only exposed to the tip of the Insect iceberg. Still, what a tip! As for all the “off the record” stuff, well, suffice it to say that Mr Insect hasn’t been sitting on his laurels.
