Review: Eat My Globe by Simon Majumdar (Foodtv.co.uk)
Review: Eat My Globe by Simon Majumdar
Foodtv.co.uk, Saturday, 23 May 2009 23:50

Eat My Globe is Simon Majumdar’s opus to food, travel and well pretty much any and every thing that turns him on. Within a few pages, Simon reveals his love for Woody Allen movies and Natalie Portman… and porridge… and cocktails… and, well, all sorts of things. He’s equally enthusiastic about his dislikes too. His wild ramble and “go everywhere/eat everything” brand of passion makes for a fun and informative read.

Restaurant Review: 222 at the Landmark Hotel (Londonist)
Restaurant Review: 222 at the Landmark Hotel
Londonist, May 22, 2009 11:40 AM
Twotwentytwo – aka 222 – is the entirely redesigned, new bar and restaurant at the Landmark Hotel. Located downstairs on the side where Cellars used to be (which we actually liked quite a lot but can see how the makeover has done the dining space and the menu a world of good). The restaurant still retains its English charm with oak wood paneling. However, the stodge factor has been neutralized and patrons more suited to dining in a modern European setting will feel right at home (ie, it doesn’t feel like it’s just for old dudes and tourists anymore; we can recommend it for dating and socializing).

The Good, the Bad and the Jamie (Qype does London)
The Good, the Bad and the Jamie
Qype does London, May 21st 2009
Actually, the day started off well enough. I had a productive morning plugging away at work followed by a rocking lunch (chicken of the woods, crabmeat, purple asparagus, a fried egg and a small glass of manzanilla) a la Eat Drink Talk’s Jennifer Klinec. The rest of the early afternoon was pretty fantastic as well. I got to meet with Jamie Oliver for an informal interview at Debenhams … Then at some point in between hanging out with fantastic peeps and heading east for the Olympic Park tour, I managed to …

Shoot London (Qype does London)
Shoot London
Qype does London, May 18th 2009
No. When I got out of bed Saturday morning, I was not looking forward to my day ahead participating in Shoot London, an all day photographic scavenger hunt organized by photo funsters, Shoot Experience. But, with my commitment as leader of Team Qype looming over my achy head, I managed to make it out the door to the meet up point in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. Besides (I told myself), every time I had participated in previous Shoot Experience events I had thoroughly enjoyed myself. In particular, I’d really got a lot out the Shoot Experience workshops I attended. So, I hit the drenched streets and trudged my way south toward the river.

TOX09 Print!
File this piece under “Y” for yet another post I meant to write months ago but just now have found the time!
TOX. I reckon there’s not a Londoner who doesn’t recognize his iconic tags (particularly you London folk that frequent the Tube). Love ‘im or hate ‘im, you gotta give it up for his consistency and tenacity. Me personally, I love the guy’s stuff and really appreciate his brand of simple, easily identifiable graffiti.
For the rest of you who love good ole Mr TOX (or those merely seeking an inexpensive opportunity to start investing in some street art with a bit of name recognition), you can now have your very own TOX09 print! Available from Souled Out Studios (for only £75!) is a limited edition series of 75 “TOX09” signed and sealed, 76cm x 56cm, one-colour hand pulled screen prints. These little babies were released some time back (check this Londonist post from March for more details). So, there may not be any left. I recommend getting in touch with the folks at Souled Out Studios ASAP.

Only a Few Days Left for Harden’s 2010 Restaurant Survey – Get a Free Book!
Londonist, May 18, 2009 1:22 PM

… as we mentioned last month, we’ve teaming up with the Hardens to help spread the word about their 19th annual restaurant survey … all of the survey participants will receive a complimentary copy of the Harden’s 2010 Restaurant Guide, containing the results from the survey. In addition to a free copy of the guide, survey filler-outers also get a chance at winning one of six free bottles of Cognac (just make sure to contribute five or more reviews and to complete the simple survey in its entirety!). Free booze – woo-hoo.

Sous Vide (Bathtub) Salmon with Jonathan “Browners” Brown (Londonist)
Sous Vide (Bathtub) Salmon with Jonathan “Browners” Brown
Londonist, May 15, 2009 4:53 PM
Londonist’s own sandwich seeking flâneur, Jonathan “Browners” Brown, isn’t just sarnie obsessed. Indeed, have a look at his own blog, Around Britian with a Paunch, and you’ll soon realize he and his foodie co-conspirator, Cowie, have a very healthy appetite for all things edible as well as for the good things in life. So, when they invited Londonist around for Jonathan’s Sous Vide “bathtub” salmon, how could we say no?

Lazarides Rathbone Now Open to the Public
Londonist, May 15, 2009 2:22 PM
As for the new mega-space at Rathbone Place, it’s luscious. In fact, we wish we were still there now (schmoozing with the glitterati and the art-wise) and admiring the collection of works by big name baddies such as Banksy, Faile, Invader, David Choe … you get the picture. And if you don’t get the picture? Well, with the opening of this new art space, you’ve just been handed a golden ticket to view some the most notorious contemporary art to pass through London and a promise of much, much more to come!

Jeff Soto/Inland Empire pics for Juxtapoz and a write up for Londonist:
First Look: Jeff Soto’s “Inland Empire” in London
Juxtapoz, Thursday, 15 May 2009
“I approach the same global issues as many of the other artists working today but choose to voice my opinion in a more subdued way. There are always social, political and environmental issues apparent in my paintings; I guess I’d rather make viewers think about things, rather than tell them how to think.”

(P)review: Jeff Soto’s Inland Empire at Stolenspace
Londonist, May 15, 2009 10:15 AM
This “politically charged” exhibition focuses on the themes of recession and the seemingly irreversible damage humans are causing to the planet. Despite the doom and gloom, Soto’s works aren’t without vibrant glimmers of hope, a keen perception of the everyday beauty at hand and a fuzzy, surreally organic tone that suggests that … well maybe just maybe … things might turn out alright.
