An Evening of Meat at The Vaults
It’s not often I’m handed a scoop of chicken liver atop a savoury cone and watched as I take each bite. I don’t know whether to stare back at her, or if she wants me to smile and look away. She’s about two inches from my face and can hear the crunch as I bite through the cone despite the thumping music. We’re doing a dance, but I’m not dancing. Continue reading

Michael Thompson’s Fodder at Borough Wines & Beer
If you’re like me and find yourself channelling your inner child in a candy store upon entering a wine shop, Borough Wines & Beers won’t disappoint. After shaking off the rain droplets and calming my breath post my mad dash into their Islington shop, I warmed in the rather intimate store. Perusing the shelves lined with British red and whites, I indulged my current natural wine obsession whose flavour ever evolves once the cork has been unscrewed. Live in Italian, Live from London Pop-Up at Potters Fields Park
Hosted sparkling water super brand S.Pellegrino in partnership with two Michelin starred chefs, Theo Randall of The Intercontinental and Phil Howard of The Square, the pop-up sees the chefs cooking “each evening with an exclusively created three-course-menu, perfectly paired with fine Italian wines,” while also providing live demonstrations of each course “within an intimate candlelit setting and guests will be encouraged to ask their burning cooking questions.” During the day there’s a lunchtime service with dishes created by Chris Denney, Head Chef at the popular Covent Garden restaurant, Four to Eight. And that’s what I had for lunch yesterday – a bite of Chris’ dishes. Continue reading

Teapigs Matcha Pop-Up at Boxpark
Teapigs, the English company founded with an eye for ethics and a taste for good tea, has had a short stint at Boxpark in Shoreditch since last week. Launching on the 16th of January, the popup shop has put a heavy focus on their most popular product: matcha, a delicate powdered green tea from the Nichou region of Japan, packed with flavour and antioxidants. Unit 26 has been transformed, at least for a little while, into a haven for tea and a menu of tasty treats you may never have associated with it. Continue reading

International Car Free Day at Seven Dials: Pop-Up Forest, Free Pizza and More
For one day only – tomorrow, Saturday 21 September – Camden Council will transforming the streets of Seven Dials to see the area become traffic-free with dozens of five-metre trees plotted around the monument as part of International Car Free Day. Inside the urban pop-up forest, there will a range events and activities taking place including an Orchard Juice Bar, complimentary cycle maintenance courtesy of Dr Bike, live music and complimentary food and drink such as homemade lemonade at Patagonia and pizza slices a la a mobile wood fired oven outside the Rossopomodoro pizzeria on Monmouth Street. London Daily Photo: Thomasina Miers, Burrito Mama
Thomasina Meirs (fresh back to work from several months’ maternity leave) and the folksbehind popular London restaurant group, Wahaca, have announced plans to open Burrito Mama – a new takeaway restaurant at One New Change (along with an actual Wahaca outlet in the same shopping complex) – at the end of October.
For a taste of what’s to come, head over to Street Feast in Dalston today where Tommi and crew will be slinging beans and stuffin’ ’em in toasted tortillas at a pop-up market stall (don’t worry – there’s covered seating if it rains). I dropped by last night for a pork pibil “Mexicana Mama” (sin rice but abundantly filled with pork and crunchy slaw). Yum. Continue reading

Colombian Chef Harry Sasson “Pops Up” at the Intercontinental London Park Lane (CheapOair)
InterContinental London Park Lane is to host its very own pop-up version of chef Harry Sasson’s pioneering Bogotá restaurant, Club Colombia. Known as one of South America’s most celebrated Chefs, Harry and his team will take over the iconic London hotel’s Cookbook Cafe from 17th to the 25th of May to recreate his modern and refined approach to Colombian cuisine for a British audience.
