Best London Pizza – 2013
To say I ate and drank well this year does not begin to describe how delectable 2013 was for me. Both in London and beyond, I had the pleasure of experiencing some of the best meals outside the home I’ve … Continue reading
London Daily Photo: Henry Winkler, OBE
Henry Winkler was in town last night to switch on the Christmas lights at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. Best known for playing Arthur Fonzarelli on the long run American television series Happy Days, the 68 year old actor is in the UK at the moment promoting and supporting his My Way! campaign to encourage children with learning difficulties. Winkler was made an honorary Officer of the British Empire in September 2011 “for services to children with special educational needs and dyslexia in the UK”. Continue reading

London Daily Photo: Honky Tonk Clapham
Honky Tonk Clapham opened about a week and a half ago, riding the cibus Americanus wave south of the river in the hopes of finding the same success that sister bar and restaurant, Honky Tonk Chelsea has.
I dropped by Honky Tonk Clapham last night for the launch party, munched on some pretty decent chicken wings and enjoyed a Maple Trace cocktail (essentially an Old Fashioned with cinnamon and maple syrup infused bourbon). Yee haw. Continue reading

Review: Sincerely, Mr Toad at Greenwich Theatre
Last night I caught the London premiere of Sincerely, Mr Toad at the Greenwich Theatre. Having toured around the UK with a well received stint at this year’s Fringe, the new musical examines the life of The Wind in the Willows author Kenneth Grahame, his icy relationship with wife Elspeth and the tragic early death of their son Alastair – and how these and other factors shaped Grahame’s imagination and writing. Bermondsey Street Festival Returns to South London (CheapOair)
Bermondsey Street Festival is an annual celebration of music, dance, arts, cuisine and creativity situated in and around one of London’s quaintest little lanes. The festival is entirely volunteer-led and can draw big crowds. Last year the event saw 15,000 visitors enjoying a range of activities including a dog show, a fashion show, maypole dancing, an open air cinema and more than 100 stalls. This year attendee numbers are expected to nearly double. Continue reading
The Picture of Dorian Gray at “Dorian Gray’s Townhouse” in London (OneTravel)
Recently, I caught a performance of the Oscar Wilde classic The Picture of Dorian Gray. An immersive piece of theatre set in an actually lived-in Georgian townhouse, the play served as an excellent opportunity to enjoy a piece of great literature brought to life while getting to snoop around a bit in someone else’s home. If you’re planning to visit London before the end of September, this adaptation could prove a quirky and cultured item to your itinerary. Continue reading
Immersive Theatre Review: The Picture of Dorian Gray at “Dorian Gray’s Townhouse”
Over the weekend, I caught a press night performance of The Alchemic Order’s production of the Oscar Wilde classic The Picture of Dorian Gray. An immersive piece of theatre set in an actually lived-in Georgian townhouse, the play served as an excellent opportunity to enjoy a piece of great literature brought to life while getting to snoop round a bit in someone else’s home. Ride London’s Overground “Culture Line” (CheapOair)
The Overground’s East London extension opened in spring of 2010. This line runs from Highbury and Islington station in the north to Croydon to the south and is particularly useful – especially for culture vultures keen to check out London’s quirkier side. Continue reading
